Will someone please tell me what Iran has done to risk total war? Other then throw out the Shah and the hostage situation, what exactly is the basis for this position? That they hate us? Is that it? That they support anti-Israel factions? Really? Sorry but I just don't see them as a threat to us at all. In fact, they could potentially be one of our greatest allies if we just cut the rhetoric.

Those sources would be very credible for a Lavrov quote. If you come across it again it's a keeper.

Decades of obtuse diplomatic and military moves by both countries have made a major war a real possibility. The entire US political class now wants war. Trump should continue to block war if he can, but a significant Iranian attack will bring it on, and Trump's response is unpredictable.

They supported insurgents in Iraq that repeatedly attacked American soldiers there. I've seen estimates that has many as 2,000 of the Americans killed in Iraq could be attributed to the forces supported and in many cases armed and trained by Iran.

    What a nonsense narrative.

You sound surprised by the fact that when you attack a nation - people fight back. Over 100,000 Iraqi's were killed -and some estimates are much higher - how should the US be punished for that ?

We armed Al Qaeda and the extremist Islamist's that went on to form the modern incarnation of ISIS - with tens of thousands of tons of sophisticated military equipment - while they were slaughtering Christians and other religious groups. This action resulted in the death of 500,000.

If we were so not so eager to violate international law, commit war crimes, support terrorists, and fight wars for no legitimate reason in the ME - our soldiers would not be dead.

So? We attacked Iraq without any justification and destroyed the country. Plus, the hate for Iran was there long before 9/11 in most neocon circles. I know your post explains what we are told but its just an excuse for the real reason.

The political class on the right and within the Israeli faction seem to want war. But why would any of us want that war or support these people? So if a few thousand politicians over time want to go to war, the rest of us just shrug it off? In a world without the draft, apparently we like to see our mercenaries fight. I say bring it back, now.

I don't think so, unless you have proper link on it, there are too many overblow tech claims. beside even if its true you need plane close enough to the missile site for 24/7 monitor, just not possible with current logistic. also use cruise missile or B2/F35 drop guided missile is much more efficient than using nuke to disable nuclear missile site. Nuke is a deterrent weapon and should be treat it as such, once used as offensive weapon, everybody in the world gonna want it. Furthermore we have missile defense that's capable to stop the like of NK long range missile.

The Iranians had no excuse for supporting the Iraqis against us. I'm not going to continue to argue about the justification for a war I think was fundamentally a good thing (and Iraq was far from destroyed).

The Iranians excuse for supporting Iraq (what ever it was) was a whole lot better than Bush's excuse for attacking Iraq - that much is a demonstrable fact.

Iraq did not attack the US - the US however did attack Iraq. Complaining about those that come to the aid of some nation that is getting attacked by a foreign power - in this case - is nonsense.

And what were we doing in Iraq? Were we invited in, or were we on one of our killing sprees? As for arming and training, uhhh, haven't we been doing that in Syria?

Let's see what happens now in Jerusalem. Netanyahu who is having political problems in Israel, and who has close relations with Trump and Putin is holding a summit with Bolton and the Russian Defense Minister. No doubt the problems with Iran are on the agenda, and I don't doubt the meeting was on Russia's initiative so as to avoid a war in the Middle East.

Netanyahu has made up a road map and Russia will be representing Iran and Syria's concerns as well as its own. This might just be the most important meeting of the century and will probably redefine the Middle East. The biggest problem will be Turkey and Iran pulling their troops out of Syria, but both countries are being offered membership in the EEU - probably as a carrot by Vladimir Putin.

Bibi seems to want the US to fight proxy wars for him in the ME and for some reason, we bite. For the life of me, I cannot understand why we kowtow to the Likud party. We should be blasting him every time we see him instead of licking his boots. If Bibi and Bolton ending up starting a war with Iran, it will end in a catastrophe. For what exactly? So that Bibi can steal more land from the Palestinians?

OP, what makes you think the U.S. is not always prepared for nuclear war?

I don't hate you at all despite your worldview. You'd survive it unlike the innocent people you want to nuke.

I don't know if the things you see and meet on aya are real or part of your own subconscious but they tend to show you things about yourself and he world that you are not aware of.
They can be tricksters about it and scare the hell out of you though.

Might be the best thing that ever happened to you.

The America of today is nothing like the America of the 18th century. And the America of the 18th century was a great idea but never lived up to what it proposed to be....except in the delusions of right-wingers who don't understand their own bloody and violent history nor what the brutal imperial wars of Empire around the Pacific and Caribbean were all about.

Hence my comment upthread about Americans living an illusion.

Politicians come and go, the masses will always be the ballast, and there will be new minds with new visions, with new knowledge, but the principle of individualism and capitalism will always be no matter who betrays them, and supports them.

Do you realize that the meeting I mentioned in my above post and that is going on right now in Jerusalem, is to establish a roadmap for peace in the Middle East. What Israel wants is for Iran and Turkey to get out of Syria, and according to an Israeli observer, Russia wants an end to sanctions and a recognition of Assad as leader of Syria.

It is not the fault of Lady Liberty that politicians don't have the courage of her conviction, but it is the fault of the fools who vote them in.

Anybody paying attention is aware of Pompeo's 12 demands. It is public record.

You have never heard of the 12 demands but I lack credibility??:roflol:

Sorry, I'm not going to indulge your laziness. You know how to use google as well as anyone.

You don't know that. The principle of individualism and capitalism are not monolithic, unchanging structures. They are systems that should be studied and analysed with the same critical eye as any other system lest they take on the rigid unyealding platitudes and dogma of religion or fascist state fundamentalism.

Who cares? There are plenty of other perfectly good reasons to attack a country.
