That's not what libs have been saying for years. They wanted their wall/fence/barrier, and very few Californians want that train. What's also funny is how that train had all their evnironmental problems solved real fast. I was living in CA when that train started and the environmentalists just moved aside. The same environmentalists have vowed to fight a wall. Wonder why? I'm sure it's not political or ideological.

You're taking a chance when you build your home in a area that gets hit with hurricanes or other major disasters. Areas that get hit with hurricanes, tornadoes, or forest fires are known areas. As such, if you chose to build there, it your fault if you home gets destroyed. And IMO, as such you shoudn't be entitled to FEMA money as that is what insurance is for and you know you're in are area. As for as hurricane money I don' know that number.

The map that I am talking about is the political map that shows who gets federal money and what states would go bankrupt if it stooped. I don't know fake or real as being there was no source that came with with.

Sell your stock in any company that sells fire insurance in CA.
Ditto any insurance company that covers property below a CA dam.

Maybe thats why homeowners are required to clear brush and remove hazards from their property. Sounds like a good plan to me.

The tahoe fire was blamed on the Sierra club because the Sierra club banned tree cutting bigger than your fist around.

Oh I absolutely agree their politicians blow money left and right but just about all government projects go extremely over budget — which is why I believe trumps demand is disingenuous pandering to his base — but for trump to deny FEMA funds, going against the very purpose it was set up for, shows that his entire presidency is to punish the people his base hates.

He would never do this to a red state — so I hope California responds in kind to his hostilities.
They would come out ahead out of this transaction.

The California voters approved the train, BTW. The new governor indicates a desire to complete sections of the high-speed rail in the Central Valley but hold off on laying track into the Bay Area.

    Good point.

Trump is clearly pandering to an ever-shrinking base.

California has averaged almost 8000 fires a year since 2000, and averages 705K acres burned per year.

The entire United States has only had 28 hurricanes since 2000 ---- only 6 of them hit Texas (and 5 of them were category 2 or lower), only 9 of the 28 were category 3 or higher, and they've impacted states from Florida to Texas to the Carolinas to New York.

You're trying to compare apples and broccoli to try to compare California's wildfire problem with hurricanes.

Not to mention there are steps which can be taken to mitigate or eliminate wildfires. There is no stopping a hurricane.

Well, I life in a high fire risk area and also know that an earthquake is coming. Should I cancel my insurance and just depend on the government? It is mildly entertaining when you call me a rightie when I talk about the most basic level of personal responsibility.

Today, I used money I worked for to pay for my own lunch. That makes me a rightie!, right?

After the 94 Northridge quake, FEMA was giving money away. All you had to do is fill out a form and you got a check. I guess having a bigger TV helps people after a disaster.

Curious what the cost is to the American taxpayer comparing hurricanes to forest fires. Anyone know?

I'd be interested also, if you can find it.

2017 was the costliest on record for hurricanes (and a lot of that went to Puerto Rico to rebuild infrastructure which was terrible to begin with, regardless of the hurricane) but there are also years with no hurricanes at all. One key difference though is that the hurricanes hit different states, and we can go years without hitting the same state twice. California is plagues with wildfires every year.

See I am perfectly fine with this too. Just as long as the Feds stop taking California’s tax revenue and all is fair.

I've mentioned "personal responsibility" a few times too many here, and have now been branded as a closet Republican, lol.

This is the same logic that is used to say the trade agreement with Mexico will pay for the wall.

He doesn’t. Dirty Donnie only cares about Dirty Donnie as he has repeatedly demonstrated for his entire life.

As for those Americans who lost family members “due to illegals”, you can thank all the Republcans who employ illegals off the books and who keep attracting more.

They may have when it cost a lot less, but they don't support it now.

But when asked in a second question whether they would stop the project, given that the cost has doubled to $77 billion and the schedule has stretched to 2033, just 31% said they would keep going and 49% said they would halt construction. A sizable 19% did not know what to do about the problems.
