This includes the disabled and the elderly. Is this a bad movie? No one administration could actually be this ****ed up. Sociopathic does not even begin to describe how low this is. This is not the society that most Americans wish to live in.

Trump is a MISOGYNIST RACIST IMBECILE (who cares only for himself).

Policies like that are to be expected from this MENTALLY UNSTABLE POS.

I think we should replace this program and higher education funding with higher education reform that funds trade schools, training programs, and apprenticeships in high-demand majors that we have shortages in. We should also train high school kids in money management and life skills. Why should we just give free money to poor people who can't make good choices when instead we can train them to work for themselves?

Give taxpayers a refund or put this toward the debt.

If you can't afford heating, tough ****. Get a job. Unless you're disabled there's nothing stopping you.

An axe costs $10. A lighter $1. Bingo. That's how people used to do it before building codes started to regulate wood fires.

Just part of the continual trajectory toward the criminalization of poverty for the benefit of the corporate state's for profit corporate prisons and convict labor leasing wherein capital can pay pennies on the dollar for labor while offloading the costs onto the public in a post-indistrial society.

So we can further subsidize the aristocracy via the debt we just incurred to that end. Turns out corporations are not people to, but rather that corporations are people and people are not.

People will say....oh we can save this money or we shouldnt be spending this money on this...and then at the same time defend military spending for "defense" as if the US mainland is under attack. Its not "defense" its more like world police. And Trumps new budget calls for a 10% or so INCREASE in spending when we allready spend more than the next 7 or 8 countries in the world. The right wants to penny pinch this program and that program yet keeps increasing Military spending

Every dog has it's day. I hope those who support cutting 'safety net' programs one day find themselves in the cold and without food or medical care. Sure, all should try to pull their load, but self sufficiency is as much a fantasy as Star Trek. Most of us are what we are, and are able to do what we do, thanks to the efforts of others. Businesses would not be profitable except for infrastructure funded by taxpayers. If you think I'm wrong, then, you should not be allowed to drive on any road you didn't build yourself!

Is there any reason why a State cannot provide funding for that?

Perhaps the elderly and disabled need to learn to do what their grand-parents and great-grand-parents did, and that is wear sweaters and keep the thermostat down.

If the elderly cannot afford heat then why am I paying so much to social security?

I'm loving all the liberals in this thread volunteering their personal money to get low income people heating.

why are these disabled and elderly people needing 'heating assistance' not living with family and being cared for via family money/resources?

If people insist on living in their own place, they should be prepared to pay for it. I'm all for assistance for both the elderly and the disabled, but not extra assistance predicated on a preference for living alone. And if the children/families of these people don't want to have the person in their home, then they (the children/families) should pay the extra costs associated with independent living. Put up or shut up. You don't get to have your cake, and eat it. That only works in Disneyland.

Typical right wingers. Just got a tax break, but that's not enough. Now they need to save three more pennies by letting some elderly and disabled people be cold.

Are you that naïve to think everyone has family they can rely on?

Something we agree on. DoE should be determining majors that are expected to be in demand 5 or 10 years down the line. With that info, they should be backing loans for those majors and letting people interested in gender studies pay their way or borrow frok.the private sector with no federal backing.

We have shortages in dozens of skilled labor categories and no one to fill them. Chicago Tribune or Sun Times had an oped about this this weekend. Written by a college professor about kids that shouldnt or dont want to be in college being forced into it because they have been told for years that they will be working fast food without a 4 year degree or more.

They'll need that extra 0.01657% to fund the war effort, which is clearly woefully underfunded.

We all knew that someone would have to pay for all the tax cuts for the rich and the increased military spending.

As typical for GOP reverse Robin Hood fashion, they look to the ones who can least afford it to pay up. It is even likely that quite a few of those who are affected are Trump voters. After all, people in Appalachia are often helped by such programs.
