WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump on Monday filed suit to keep U.S. lawmakers from obtaining his financial records, the first salvo in what promises to be an escalating legal battle with Democrats in Congress.

The suit seeks to block a subpoena issued by the Democratic chairman of the U.S. House Oversight Committee for information about Trump’s personal and business finances, alleging Democrats have launched “all-out political war” on Trump with subpoenas as their “weapon of choice.”

The committee’s subpoena sought eight years of documents from Mazars USA, an accounting firm long used by Trump to prepare financial statements, related to its investigation of allegations Trump inflated or deflated financial statements for potentially improper purposes.

And here some people actually try to say that Trump is open and transparent.

 

As he should, Congress has no right to conduct a criminal investigation of someone without a probable cause, they are not a judicial body. If someone with whom he did business and entered into a contract thinks he did so fraudulently let them file a civil suit or a complaint with the DA.

 

Yet they are the only body that can bring a legal proceeding against the president?/

 

What legal proceeding? I thought in this country that unreasonable search and seizure was protected against by our Constitution. There is no probable cause, other than unbridled chafing, itching, and burn created by the sudden reality that the witch is dead, it wasn't her turn.

 

His personal lawyer suggested several financial crimes. Under oath before congress...that’s probable cause.

 

A lot of people suggested Obama wasn’t qualified to be president due to a question about where he was born, did congress ever investigate that?

In response to the conspiracy theories, the White House released copies of the President's long-form birth certificate on April 27, 2011, and posted an image of it to the White House website, reaffirming that he was born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

He wasn't referring to the original done in crayon.

 

Congressional oversight of the executive is not illegal, at least not outside of Trump's diseased, tyrannical brain.

 

The government should not be allowed to go after private citizens. The oversight is supposed to be of government activity not targeting political opponents.

 

They've got zero, nada, zip, zilch on Trump during his administration. The witch hunt extends to his past private life now. Desperate times for desperate people.

 

That one who has been convicted of perjury? The convicted liar one who has every incentive to lie in this case?

 

Leaked lies so heinous that even Mueller went public to refute one of them.

 

I had no idea that to get probable cause for investigations into private areas of the President's life you just need a convicted, admitted perjurer to continue to perjure himself.

In that case, sign me up for the next Dem President. Check his financials, check his records. I allege he ia doing the dirty, even though I am upfront about this being a blatant lie, search everything.

 

This has nothing to do with 'probable cause.' It has all to do with Congress ensuring the POTUS...you know, the President, the most powerful man on the Planet, has met all his financial obligations to the USA. That he is POTUS makes him fair game to be put to every Pub test anyone wants to unleash on him. He must be more pure than Caesar's Wife by virtue of the position he holds. It comes with the territory. And I'll bet the IRS over there can unleash an audit on every US citizen on a whim, and random choice ~ entirely without probable cause if they want to.

 

Prosecutors rarely put witnesses on the stand like Cohen. Successful prosecutors, that is. Leave it to the Democrats though. He's even worse than a jailhouse snitch.

 

I'm sure he's the jailhouse bitch by now.

 

Sorry but congress only has the power of oversight when it comes to activities as president. This is targeting the political opposition.
