Medical care. I think former Senator Coburn (R-OK) had the right idea: everyone gets a voucher that completely covers basic medical care. Insurers would not be allowed to exclude people with preexisting conditions. If you want more than basic coverage, you can top up our voucher. Don't use your voucher? You're assigned an insurance company if you show up at a hospital or clinic.

Pension. Everyone gets a basic pension. Beyond that, you provide for yourself.
What's all this stuff about stealing? Geez, try to be realistic.

I don't collect Social Security--maybe I should, but I don't because I don't need it--and I use the Canadian medical care system because I think it's better that Medicare. (Born and raised in Southern California, naturalized in Canada, so I can pick.) But you don't hear me talking about "stealing."

We should provide a basic pension and medical care for all American citizens. If we take the people who have difficulty saving because they have low-paying jobs and add in those who have financial problems because of misfortune, poor investing skills, and outright irresponsibility, we have a huge potential base of impoverished seniors.

If money is taken from your paycheck, promised something in return that you are never going to get, how is that not stealing?

If you are retirement age you should get your SS, that is your money, not anyone elses.
If you don't need it, take it and donate it to a charity put it to good use. The US Government isn't.

Care to address the points as laid out?

You have already proven you are a master at deflection in virtually every other thread, try having an actual discussion for once...

And no, I don’t hate the military but I do have the integrity to look at the money they are wasting and identify it as a cause of concern.

Did i not already say the military would. E deeply cut? Most of that cutting would be in the Pentagon itself.

And i have the integrity to acknowledge that our social programs are failing because we cannot afford them.

If we instituted a national healthcare system that negotiated medical costs to bring us in line with the rest of the world and reduced our military to a proportional size as the rest of the world we would be well on the way to resolving our debt issues. Turning the social security program into a personal savings account like Canada and eliminating Medicare by rolling it into a national healthcare system would also put a huge dent in it. Removing tax loopholes would also assist.

Just curing programs that people depend on to survive is, well... heartless, and doesn’t even think of the ramifications of such actions.

What's a good proportion size for our military?

    Thanks for being specific.

How about selling the armor off our Hummers, would that be a good idea?
Maybe we should keep using airplanes after the life of their airframes are expired.
Maybe our fighter pilots should get less training.

I for one am opposed to cutting anything that puts the best Americans in more danger by leaving them poorly equipped or improperly trained.

Ohh and i strongly oppose military service as an alternative to jail.

You really have nothing but logical fallacies do you?

Yes, it’s an 80 year old widows fault because she paid into SS her entire life and is now receiving a whopping $1,372.00 per month. Totally has nothing to do with a single ship that cost $7,800,000,000.00 and cannot even fire it’s main weapon system.

You will get what has so far been promised--Social Security and Medicare. There pols have no stomach for crossing senior citizens or older types nearing retirement. Social Security and Medicare are extremely popular programs--somewhere around 80%. There is even solid support for raising taxes if necessary to maintain benefits.

There is a range of resources we don't have. We have to trade to get them. Other countries are going to trade and benefit from trade, even we don't.

Not much to be said for the benefit when I got it for $10.

Anyway, Custer did in Custer because he was overconfident.
Who is "they?" These "they" of whom you speak are worried their employer may fire them?

You live in a strange place.

"They" refers to the folks collecting entry fees.
Tell them you are registered native and they fall all over themselves trying to get you through the door.
Experienced it at Yellowstone and a few other places.
