The popular idea circulating among the anti-Trump side is that Trump supporters are a cult. I would argue this is an incorrect characterization of the term. Cults are defined as a small group of people that share philosophical, religious, or narrow beliefs.

Tribe is the more accurate characterization of the Trump supporters. To wit:

    Tribe
    noun: tribe; plural noun: tribes

a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized leader.

    ———————-

This is a more accurate description of Trump supporters. Tribes like Trump’s operate in a closed social order that gains its strength through the power of victimization. This comes from evil or corrupt external powers threatening the tribe.

When a tribe, like this, is questioned, criticized, or challenged by outside forces the immediate reaction is to circle the wagons and drag out the armor and weapons, because it is seen as an act of war by the outsiders. The weapons are personal vilification and attack, exaggerations, abusive or foul language, lies, transference, or rationalizations, something demonstrated on a regular basis by Trump supporters.

When thus exposed the tribe will immediately create imaginary tribes to support their contention that the other side does it too. Usually there is no “other side.”

I understand the 'cult' idea. It's difficult not to see the similarities between Jim Jones and Donald Trump. I've referred to their similarity several times over the past year and a half.

The left is very good at labeling people so they can insult and ignore them like Hillary’s deplorables.

Of course all they do is turn off more voters so I suggest they keep it up like this desperate attempt by the OP.

With the growth of Trump's approval ratings, that is going to be a very big "tribe". Almost like a nation of Trump supporters. We'll see what happens even with more negative media coverage of Trump by American leftist news outlets. Although, I would say, they don't believe in fake news like Russian collusion conspiracies.

Telling when the swamp creature many Democrats emulate with the cult crap couldn't manage 35% of support from his own party.

Watching the madness coming out of the Trump administration is like seeing a 1950's Alien Abduction Movie

where aliens have taken over the minds of a small town in Texas

Invaders from Mars : The extraterrestrials intend to use mind control on the local townsfolk

Especially obvious when Larry Kudlow ( victim of alien mind control), who was present for negotiations at the G7 summit in Quebec over the weekend,
said Trudeau had instigated “a betrayal” and was “essentially double-crossing President Trump”.

I presume you have evidence that, as political parties go, Republicans are a tribe while Democrats are not. In that case, how would you explain Sherrod Brown and many other Democrat Senators who vote in unison with radical extremist Chuck Schumer. Sherrod, running for reelection to represent Ohio for another 6 years, voted 93% in support of Chuckie and New York when no one was watching in 2017.

Then there is Jack Dorsey, who cowered at sandals of the almighty 5.2%-er Liberal Progressive extremists who hijacked the Democrat Party.

Liberals on the Supreme Court vote more in unison than Conservatives.

I'm willing to entertain that Republicans are a tribe, but not without evidence.

Why not think of these trump voters as disinfranchised, forgotten americans that neither party any longer stands up for nor represents? That would be be much closer to reality.

Of course you can project the term tribe onto them, if it helps you in undermining them, and of course that is what you are trying to do. You could call any group of people a tribe, even the people who believed in the civil rights movement long ago. The antiwar protestors during the war in vietnam. So if you are trying to use the term tribe in some dismissive demeaning manner you must consider this. And isn't that really your motive?

The evidence is in their behavior both here and in public. The Dems are not a tribe because they are leaderless. They are a disorganized mob seeking a leader to give them direction and common cause to make them a tribe. It's quite a show.

    Wait a minute.

    I thought we were deplorables.

    So, which is it?

Which name will you guys call the folks that beat you again in 2020?

    Deplorables?

    Cultist?

    Tribalist?

    None of the above.

You guys will be defeated again by American Patriots.

The irony of these conservatives/righties complaining about the name calling. Sorry, but both sides act like teenage girls with the insults/labeling.

How about the same ol' Label they have been totin' since 2010.

And, we will not have to change this Label for some time because it will continue to apply in the foreseeable future.

First off, Trump is not an ideologue. If there is consistency, it's that he was. Democrat when Republicans were in power and a Republican when Democrats were in power. He's no conservative, but that's where he found a home. He took the time to get a sense for what Conservatives have wanted and he is delivering what we have been promised. No one is following him, per se, but as a deal maker he listens.

Democrats, on the other hand are driven by ideology, more now than ever. This has made them tone deaf. Can you imagine going to Appalachia, telling miners that they are out of business, but they'll love food stamps? That was Obama. So Obama lost eastern OH and western PA for Hillary.

If you can imagine that tone deafness, how about embracing the genocidal Castros and expect for Hillary to get the Cuban-American vote.

If that isn't tone deafness, how about assaulting the existing minority community with illegal aliens to lower their pay.

I support what Trump has done because I have wanted Republicans to do those things all along. They have failed to get the job done. Like now with immigration. Republicans are scared that their party may be more conservative than they are comfortable with after this session ,,, so these clowns are looking to cram something through that only a liberal could love.

I could never vote for a Democrat. For me, it's Republicans or term limits if there isn't a satisfactory Republican.

Oh, um, based on the evidence, Chuck Schumer leads the Democrat Party if there is one leader. I think the radical extremist Center for American Progress and Soros drive the whole lot of you.

I'm surprised you even find this illuminating :) So you think this a revelation, this "Tribal" anomaly?

Have you ever been to "China town", "Little Mexico" or any of the burrows in New York. How about Ghettos and gang strongholds, Burbs, countries, cities, towns, high schools!

"a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized leader."

WELL OF COURSE politics plays into the thousand year old behavior of human evolution :)

It's a natural occurrence, even in ANIMALS, wtf man? LOLOLOL
