Definitely cult. A cult is 100% dependent on their leader. A tribe is loyal to their leader, but they can change without losing social cohesion.

The Trump cult doesn't care if they're criticized or challenged. They only care if their "deity" is criticized. They are even willing to lie and give up their own dignity for the "glory" of their leader.

    What a crock of crap!

Supporters of President Trump are rebels against the established order. We are political insurgents.

It’s a gag. Not actually serious. So like a said earlier, OBama had true delusional beleivers behind him. Any praising of Trump that’s even remotely serious are true fringe wackadoos. Obama was being praised by school children singling serious songs about him. Mmmmmm, mmmmmmm, Obaaaamaaaa.

Agreed on Obama. That said, disagreed that Trump doesn't have fanatics and delusional believers fawning after him too.

Yeah you’re right. There are a lot of alt left forum members spamming the forum who may be Russian trolls.

Except that Jones was a san francisco socialist democrat, and so were those nutjobs who followed him to that jungle and then killed themselves just as quickly as you could say bob's your uncle.

I totally agree. But Obamas fanatics were far more open about it. Still are. They weren’t fringe. THey were mainstream. Just like Hillary supporters crying and hugging each other like the world ended. That’s fanatical and delusional.

I doubt political affiliation had anything to do with who qualified for Jones Town.

You didn't know they were all socialists, or that Jones was rubbing elbows with every democrat in the country? Of course political affiliation had everything to do with it.

Well, I'm figuring Obama had his eight years. Let's at least give Trump's fans four. :)

The cult in question is the Cult of Personality, which is a core tenet in Facism.

Trump has assidiuously courted such a cult. It is blind hero worship based on two principal things, jingoism and white resentment' Both of these are the ultimate distillation of Trumpism.

It's a cult, like Jim Jones cult without the mass suicides!

Trumpery is a cult, bound emotionally by irrational veneration. Their messiah explained that they readily abandon rational and moral standards in their absolute faith in him when he accurately noted that they would have no problem with his shooting someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue.

Their devotion prevents them from ever admitting to any of his copious lies, or conceding that he is not the omnipotent, omniscient deity they fancy, despite the all-too-obvious blatant reality.

They become hysterical whenever any fact-based criticism is offered, often fleeing to their "Oh yeah! Well, what about ...!" mental refuges.

They are the textbook definition of a personality cult.

Interesting graphic, but obviously poliitically biased since it cherry-picks from the actual website to make it's politically biased point.

    https://culteducation.com/warningsigns.html
Ten warning signs of a potentially unsafe group/leader.
    1. Absolute authoritarianism without meaningful accountability.
    2. No tolerance for questions or critical inquiry.
    3. No meaningful financial disclosure regarding budget, expenses such as an independently audited financial statement.
    4. Unreasonable fear about the outside world, such as impending catastrophe, evil conspiracies and persecutions.
    5. There is no legitimate reason to leave, former followers are always wrong in leaving, negative or even evil.
    6. Former members often relate the same stories of abuse and reflect a similar pattern of grievances.
    7. There are records, books, news articles, or television programs that document the abuses of the group/leader.
    8. Followers feel they can never be "good enough".
    9. The group/leader is always right.
    10. The group/leader is the exclusive means of knowing "truth" or receiving validation, no other process of discovery is really acceptable or credible.
Ten warning signs regarding people involved in/with a potentially unsafe group/leader.
    1. Extreme obsessiveness regarding the group/leader resulting in the exclusion of almost every practical consideration.
    2. Individual identity, the group, the leader and/or God as distinct and separate categories of existence become increasingly blurred. Instead, in the follower's mind these identities become substantially and increasingly fused--as that person's involvement with the group/leader continues and deepens.
    3. Whenever the group/leader is criticized or questioned it is characterized as "persecution".
    4. Uncharacteristically stilted and seemingly programmed conversation and mannerisms, cloning of the group/leader in personal behavior.
    5. Dependency upon the group/leader for problem solving, solutions, and definitions without meaningful reflective thought. A seeming inability to think independently or analyze situations without group/leader involvement.
    6. Hyperactivity centered on the group/leader agenda, which seems to supercede any personal goals or individual interests.
    7. A dramatic loss of spontaneity and sense of humor.
    8. Increasing isolation from family and old friends unless they demonstrate an interest in the group/leader.
    9. Anything the group/leader does can be justified no matter how harsh or harmful.
    10. Former followers are at best-considered negative or worse evil and under bad influences. They can not be trusted and personal contact is avoided.
