They sell bump stocks for .22LRs here in the UK.
If I had money coming out of my ears I'd buy one and try one for a laugh. But I have no use for one and no spare money to piss up the wall.
I don't think the NRA will squeal loudly at what is after all only an attempt to bypass existing gun control laws already.
Currently semantically legal, but against the spirit of existing laws.

I don't really feel that the difference between full and semi automatic in a rifle is worth bothering about. Personally.
On the otherhand I can't see the point in owning a semi automatic sub machine gun either.

The people who use these are not I suspect very experienced with weapons. For them it makes it a lot easier even if it does not for someone who is more experienced. I have been told for people good with machinery it is possible to convert many SAR to fully automatic modes. Certainly this was done in the 2nd world war with the M1 Garand. They used to sell kits to convert weapons to automatic fire. This may now be illegal.

As to the subject of bump stocks I have never been an advocate of knee jerk silly laws addressin gun modifications and this is going to be one of those. But who cares bump stocks aren't popular... No one I know uses or owns one for the simple fact that unless your aiming your weapon at a herd of Buffalo you can't hit anything.

So sure ban bump stocks. We have a conservative Congress atm and a decades long conservative SCOTUS so if banning bump stocks makes any snowflakes sleep better at night? Knock yourselves out.

Im sure the NRA will voice some kind of foreboding condemnation about a slippery slope but that's it.

Nothing will make leftists happy but us giving up all of our guns so don't think Trump will earn any points with them.

Outlaw bump stocks, there are two other ways that I know of making a semi auto rifle to shoot like full auto and it's a whole lot cheaper and what you need can be found in the home.

    The same.
I don't think Trump scores any points with this.

I had to do be seen to do something and this won't make any difference to anyone, so I'll do that.
    A placebo ban.

I wouldn't be satisfied as an anti gun campaigner and I wouldn't be offended as a gun owner. They are however a legal loop hole. Albeit a pointless one to correct, that has resulted in zero murders or school massacres thus far.

Hold rifle by your side barrel level with the ground, pointed down range. Stick your index finger through trigger guard and hook tip of index finger on your belt loop. Gradually push rifle toward target. Instant bumpfire.

I am new to this board and it seemed like news to me. I did not realize that the board required links. In the future I will add them.

I am not sure what the requirements are to be on this board, but this seemed an appropriate topic to me.

On this topic, I am as close to a world class expert as you are going to find outside a Marine Armory.

It isn't difficult to machine a full-auto sear but it is very, very difficult to time that sear so as not to fire out of battery. Symptoms of an automatic rifle firing out of battery range from something like the rifle firing nonstop until the magazine is empty to something as nasty as a breach explosion.

Honestly, if you haven't been trained to fire a rifle on full auto, you are just a waste of ammo anyway.

I was NOT referring to filing down the sear.

There are other ways to have a semi auto rifle to operate like using a bump stock.

I tried filing down a sear using a jewelers file back when I was 14 back in 1964 on a .22 Remington Nylon 66.

It went full auto but when I took my finger off the trigger it kept shooting.

If you were a Marine armor you likely remember this. -> [IMG]

I was not a marine armorer.

I was however a marine and was trained to use and field strip several full auto rifles like the M-16A2. Yes I have seen and modified a select fire group assembly.

Converting a civilian AR-15 from semi auto to full auto requires more than the selector switch.

Well you won't be accurate, but if you are firing into a large crowd that may not matter.

Actually, speaking specifically to the 'Vegas incident, he could have inflicted more damage with disciplined semi-auto fire.

In a different scenario from closer range, I agree that a bump stock might make a difference in casualties.

As I said before, that rate of fire can be achieved without a bump stock.

Some people's sole purpose in responses is to troll and denigrate the poster.
Which those type of posts are against forum rules.

I think it depends on the expertise of the shooter. Some one familiar with weapons probably could kill more with aimed fire. I don't think this was true of the person in Las Vegas although details on his ability with weapons has not come out in the press I have seen.

I would agree to some extent. I haven't seen much of his background in the press either, which always makes me suspicious.

    I think people lost interest.

An example of this issue is that the US has moved away from fully automatic fire in its primary rifle (the M16) to single shot or 3 round bursts. In an earlier version, in Vietnam, it also had a fully automatic mode. The US found out that few were getting killed this way as people simply sprayed it without aiming. The automatic mode was based on the research of SLA Marshal who claimed that nearly no one actually fired their rifles in World War II. His views have been discredited, but held wide influence in the 50's.
