Trump Tells Pentagon Chief He Does Not Want War With Iran

Lots of recent reporting seems to indicate that Trump is leery of a new war in the Middle East, which is consistent with his campaign rhetoric during 2016. The question becomes: Can Trump control the maniacs - Bolton and Pompeo - inside his own administration? Only time will tell, but it appears the window for war is narrowing as the congress and US allies become more involved. No doubt, Bolton, a callous merchant of death, is losing sleep thinking about the possibility of peace breaking out.

 

Probably had something to do with Pompeo's meeting with Putin and Lavrov in Socchi Tuesday. My guess is that he got a reality check while there.

 

I have to wonder though if Pompeo is the sort of person who is capable of being checked by reality. As far as I can tell, he inhabits a world of his own creation.

No. Most people are aware that there is a difference between their internal world and the external world. Pompeo seems largely oblivious to that.

 

Trump never campaigned as a war monger type unlike Hillary Clinton. He's been trying to pull US troops out of Syria but the war mongers in both parties are fighting him. Even MSM doesn't like the idea of pulling US troops out of Syria.

If there is no war then there must be peace. SK and the US have been wanting to sign a real peace agreement with NK since the aggression ended in the 50's. It's the Kim regime who refuses to sign a peace agreement.

 

Right. If he does unilaterly pull out the troops he is a dictator. If he doesn't he's weak. I know how the game of politics is played. It's what's killing this country.

 

He may be that, but the possibility of an ass-whoopin' (in this case in the hybrid warfare sense) generally will chill out a bully.

Any "peace agreement" offered up by the Trump administration is inherently suspect.

 

So Trump isn't doing what he promised he would do because he's scared that people will call him names.

He is weak. He needs to do what he promised he would do and stop worrying about what his haters will say.

What's killing this country are endless wars that cost us trillions of dollars.
