Why don't you try and learn something about what you're talking about before you run your mouth like that?

Trumpsters will apparantly be the last to learn, that just because thier orange fuhrer bellows it, it often delibberately false.

Actually, a surplus is how you pay back your debts. When you have a deficit you have a growing debt, and when you have a surplus you have a shrinking debt. All states have a debt, but not all states have a shrinking debt.

The federal grants were for the central valley section of the high speed rail, which has not been canceled, it is still underway. The deadline for these federal grants is the end of 2022, meaning the state of California would only owe that money back to the federal government if they fail to build a railway that covers the central valley by the end of 2022.

No, we taxpayers will eat the money. When is congress going to understand that it can't keep borrowing and spending this way. It will eventually break us.

I didn't suggest a president or a time frame. We are spending ourselves into oblivion and nobody cares.

Some people care, we are just drowned out by the big two parties that only care when they are not the ones that are directing the flow of money.

Debt was a huge issue for cons when Obama was working on lowering it, now its irrelivant. It will likely become a huge issue again for them in a few years.
    Democrats unfortunately never really care.

The real problem is that the voters don't care. If they did, they could fix the problem by voting out the over-spenders. The political parties are only interested in their own political power and we have trained them to spend money in order to maintain that power. The good news for me is that I'm old and not likely to live long enough to see the final economic crash.

Many of the contractors were already paid but had no land to lay track on.

The way it's suppose to work, first you legally purchase the land where the tracks are to be laid then award the contracts to contractors to lay the tracks.

    Seems California did it backwards.

Not true, the R's care when a D sits in the WH.
When R is in the WH, neither party cares.
Suggesting, 1 party is a hypocrite on deficits.

    That nobody cares.
The R's care immensely when a D holds the WH. It's all that was talked about by them with obama.
Now, they don't even know what deficit is. Hypocrisy.

Government is way to big and intrusive in CA. I am not surprised at all by this.

There is probably already a protocol in place for missing deadlines. I really don't know, just speculating.

That's four times I agree with Trump. If you aren't/can't build what you planned to build then you give the money back. Otherwise every state is going to say they want Federal money( ie other states money) to build trains or tunnels and then as soon as they cash the check just say "Oops we changed our mind but thanks for the billions of dollars."

    I said exactly that.
1 party pretends to care, the R party, when the D is in the WH.
The D party, I rarely see them care.
So 1 party is the typical hypocrite on the issue. As I also said.

    Accounting gimmicks.

The Pew Charitable Trusts, which has followed the nationwide public pension issue closely, issued a report that examines the systems’ unfunded liabilities, and explains why some states have big gaps while others are fully funded, or nearly so.

Pew shows a $168 billion unfunded liability for the CA Public Pension system.

Trump to Use ‘Nuclear Option’ to Recover $2.5 Bn More from California’s Failed High-Speed Rail Project

The Trump administration announced this week that it was canceling nearly $1 billion in grant money for California’s now-defunct high-speed rail project — and President Donald Trump is coming for the other $2.5 billion. The $2.5 billion has already been spent — but California has failed to deliver the high-speed rail as promised. Therefore, the Trump administration argues, the state has to repay federal taxpayers.
