The walls work in Israel and they work here. They cut illegal entries by 99% wherever they're built.

You have your head in the sand. Wake up.

Who says Trump is actually trying to fix the problem? If he is, why isn't he going after employers hiring illegals?

Half of the 10+m illegals here now overstayed a visa. While you're guarding the back door, the Orange Oaf is letting them in the front door and hiring them at his golf resorts.

We pretty much have fencing in populated areas. Past administrations have put them where they do the most good. That's also why there is plenty of money for upgrades and repairs.

    Really?

By "the Soviets"...you mean the organization that no longer exists...the one that went out of business?

Yeah...the wall worked great for "the Soviets."

It will never be enough for you.

If you know a company who hired illegals, report them. You are well aware of the procedure.

Lol .... You have 1,950 miles of border to Mexico and where any wall or big fene makes sense as border protection, you mostly have still. So please stop this bullcrap blabbering like the border is unprotected and face realities!

Okay, then minefields ... install auto-fire systems, let 1/4 of the US armed forces monitor the border and waste tons of taxpayer money every year ... against as little illegal border crossings as in 20 years ... without the idiots Wall!

Most US illegal immigrants do not come via Mexico ... they come with legal visas and stay longer than allowed ... or they come to the US via Canada or via airports and seaports!

    VERY true!!!

Digits and reports for 2018 are not yet fully published by the US authorities like Hoemland Security ... whyever ... but for 2017 we have:

    https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/publications/18_0807_S1_Entry-Exit-Overstay_Report.pdf

    Expired Visa!
"DHS has determined that there were 52,656,022 in-scope nonimmigrant admissions1 to the United States through air or sea POEs with expected departures occurring in FY 2017, which represents the majority of air and sea annual nonimmigrant admissions. Of this number, DHS calculated a total overstay rate of 1.33 percent, or 701,900 overstay events. In other words, 98.67 percent of the in-scope nonimmigrant entries departed the United States on time and in accordance with the terms of their admission."

And now border to Mexico ...

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/stuart...-border-crossings-at-record-low/#34afd0034b73

"“CBP recorded 310,531 apprehensions by U.S. Border Patrol agents and 216,370 inadmissible cases by CBP officers in FY17, a 23.7% decline over the previous year.”"

In 2018 it becomes more, but stiill under 400,000! So what is more by pure maths ... eh?

We have 22,000,000 illegals. The border is not secure.

Some that sent back come back 5 or 6 times. My son’s manager at McDonalds was an illegal. He was kicked out 5 times and he came back 5 times.

Then get more staff to follow up on the visas and also build a wall.

The visa problem was an issue under Obammy.

And how many of them came via Mexican border ...

Anyway ... these digits are irrelevant. What is important in moment?

    a) to secure the border so that as few new illegal entries as possible happen!

    b) the people who have already come to the US illegally for many years ... who, of course, have summed up ... to deport again or possibly to legalize them later in the justified individual case!

To a) There are as few illegal ones crossing the border as in 20 years, which means that the borders have become damn safer ... and / or ... that the incentive to go to the US illegally has diminished , no matter why.

To b) No Wall helps here, because that's another problem that the US somehow has to solve. Even if the idiot in the White House calls all 22 million bad aliens and criminals, and far from everything about Mexico or Hispanos ... that's not the case. A prominent example of many: Ceasar Milan - the dog whisperer!

And to the wall ... is it clear to you that wherever there is a wall / fence as border security, there already exists one? You have 1,950 miles border and around 2/3 to 3/4 has a fortified border. Where does Trump want to build a wall? In deserted nowhere desert and mega rough terrain, where anyway no one will try illegally to reach the US? Really makes a lot of sense ...

And another inconvenient fact: Before you began to fortify the border ... still under under Clinton, hardly anyone from Mexico settled permanently in the US. 80% wanted to make money only xyz many months and then back to the family again. Most of the 22 million you call then decided to stay permanently because of the border installations, because an illegal go back and re-entry was too difficult and dangerous. This is called "own goal"!

I was specifically replying to a comment where the guy said the Berlin Wall didn't work. I think he probably meant politically it didn't work. Physically it obviously did.

Until employers go to jail and are thus seriously deterred from hiring illegals, I won't be satisfied. These links are all anecdotal BS. There are 10+m illegals in this country--somebody is hiring them, often in plain sight.
    This is a red herring.

We could stop illegal hiring in its tracks if we gave a sh't.

Because communism collapsed and Germany unified?

I think its a silly comparison to Trump's proposed wall. Berlin Wall was designed to keep people in, not out.

I didn't write what you quoted me saying. Here's what I wrote to @Texas Republican:

So, how about you joining with me in demanding the government go after employers at the same time we build border barriers?

Okay...you did mean the nation that went out of existence.

And you want us to do what they did.

    Okay...that's your right.

Read what you wrote. I sounds as though that is what you are saying. Perhaps I am wrong. Re-state what you intended...and I will respond.

It prevented people from crossing the border in Berlin.

That was the goal of the Berlin wall and it's what happened. I don't know how anyone can say that it didn't work.
