    1. The following are excerpts from the 7 Sep 2018 news report headlined "US recalls envoys from Latin American countries for cutting Taiwan ties".

    (Begin excerpts)
Washington (AFP) – The United States on Friday recalled its envoys to three Latin American countries that recently switched diplomatic ties from Taiwan to China, saying it would hold consultations with the diplomats.

The move comes after Washington accused Beijing last month of destabilizing cross-Strait relations and engaging in a campaign of “political interference” by poaching Taiwan’s allies in the western hemisphere.

“The Department of State has called back the US Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Robin Bernstein, the US Ambassador to El Salvador Jean Manes and the US Charge d’Affaires in Panama Roxanne Cabral,” a statement said Friday...
    .
Some analysts saw the poaching of El Salvador as an indirect slap in the face to President Donald Trump’s administration and a warning against further friendly overtures. (End excerpts)

    2. There is one country from which the US has forgotten to recall its envoy, that is, itself.

The majority of countries fell over like a row of dominoes to establish diplomatic ties with China after Richard Nixon's visit to that country in 1972 and Jimmy Carter's full diplomatic recognition, while acknowledging mainland China's One China principle and severing normal ties with Taiwan in 1979.

Did all other countries, particularly the Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Panama, accuse China of destabilizing cross-Strait relations and engaging in a campaign of “political interference” by poaching Taiwan’s main ally -- the US -- in 1972? Did all other countries, particularly the Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Panama, recall their envoys to the US that switched diplomatic ties from Taiwan to China in 1972?

There is a Chinese proverb: "Government officials were allowed to commit arson, but the common people were banned from lighting their lamps." Isn't it contradictory and hegemonic for the US to set a bad precedent by switching diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to mainland China while fuming at other countries for following in its footsteps?
