Key word is "your view." The president can constitutionally ban any immigration at his discretion according to the constitution.

No, that is not accurate. His decision is still subject to other requirements and restrictions imposed by the constitution.

He is not allowed to endorse or denigrate a religion, race, or sex solely on behalf of the fact that they belong to that religion, race, or sex. He is also not allowed to simply deprive individuals of rights (like a right to visit granted through the VISA program) without a due process.

Those are a pair of limitations, but that is not the exhaustive list.

Yes, unless his "ban" conflicts with another portion of the Constitution, such as the First Amendment.

My point is that we (Americans) do have a First Amendment that guarantees freedom of religion. Our elected officials are sworn to uphold that Constitution as the supreme law of the land. Islamic terrorists don't have a First Amendment; nor do they believe in freedom of religion, so they don't have to abide by that value; but since we do claim freedom of religion as a basic American value, and it is in our Constitution, we must abide by it. Many unthinking Americans feel we must lower our standards to match those of our enemies, but if we do we become like them, and fighting them becomes a moot point, for we have already abandoned the thing worth fighting for. Winning can never be achieved by lowering oneself to the standards of the enemy. Doing that makes you and the enemy alike, and erases the higher values distinguishing you from them in the first place.

Yes... you have the right to hate whom you want and your forefathers had same right to hate the Irish people and to say they are catholic animals, as they had the right to hate the Chinese taken into country as cheap labors for the railway building and many other groups throughout US history!

And we have the right to stay for US core values in our countries further which were once taught us by your forefathers too, but what people like you throw into the dirt due to BS claims!

Look at it this way. Not all pit bulls are bad. Most are nice little dogs, who love to snuggle. But, when they become angry, they can kill you. Would you enter the dog park, if there were no owners around, and there were nothing but pit bulls inside?

It's not bigoted to admit that, terrorism, at this moment in history, is almost entirely a thing of the Muslim community. Nobody wants to see a community discriminated against. But, at the same time, security trumps feelings, in every nation, every time. Responsible Muslims should admit that the problem is in THEIR community, not ours. Since they only very rarely admit there is a problem, we have no choice but to be distrustful of any that we do not know. If we could rely on peaceful Muslims, to report the Jihadists, NONE of these security measures would even be necessary.

I agree with your comments. They are thoughtful and fair minded, and correctly identify some of the dilemmas associated with this complex issue. I just wanted to note that there are actually Muslim activists in America who are doing exactly what you suggest--they are publically attacking terrorism as wrong for society and the Muslim faith, and are encouraging Mosques to identify possible extremists BEFORE terrorist acts happen, whenever possible. Unfortunately, these good Muslim Americans are still too few and too scattered to have the kind of impact we would hope, leaving us in the throes of uncertainty you described above. This is indeed a complex problem, and one where every conceivable solution can and does have a series of powerful ripple effects that can and probably will affect society around us.

I don't feel like going through this thread. The real issue with the Trump travel ban for me was more its idiocy, its hypocrisy, and its efficacy, than its constitutional legality. The travel ban is basically a ban on travel to the US of people from Iran (along with 5 other states which together don't have as many visitors to the US as those who come from Iran).

In the meantime, the "US virtual embassy" in Iran has the following pictures and profiles of Iranian-Americans.

    https://ir.usembassy.gov/category/prominent-iranian-americans/

These and tens of thousands of other Iranian Americans have played prominent roles in almost all disciplines and areas of life in the US, except in politics where (with few exceptions) they are largely absent. They have founded some of America's most successful new businesses, from e-bay to dozens of major high-tech companies in the Silicon Valley and elsewhere. They are among America's most accomplished academics, scientists, physicians, inventors and engineers. They include major figures in American media and journalism, as well as accomplished designers, directors, screen writers, actors and actresses. What you don't find among them are any terrorists!
