Full title adds: House Committee Reportedly Looking Into Cover-Up.

Former President Donald Trump’s activities during the January 6 attack on the Capitol building are unaccounted for, as the Washington Post and CBS News report official White House call logs and diaries from the date have hours-long gaps as the riot was unfolding—and the House January 6 committee is reportedly investigating whether they were obscured on purpose.

    [End]

The House panel is now investigating whether Trump communicated that day through backchannels, phones of aides or personal disposable phones, known as "burner phones," according to two people with knowledge of the probe, who, like others interviewed for this report, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive information. The committee is also scrutinizing whether it received the full log from that day.

The records show that former White House chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon — who said on his Jan. 5 podcast that "all hell is going to break loose tomorrow" — spoke with Trump twice on Jan. 6.

A spokesman for the committee declined to comment.

In a statement Monday night, Trump said, "I have no idea what a burner phone is, to the best of my knowledge I have never even heard the term."

A Trump spokesperson said that Trump had nothing to do with the records and had assumed any and all of his phone calls were recorded and preserved.

    [End]

Things are starting to get interesting: 7 hours, during the Capitol Riots, with no record of any incoming or outgoing calls, at the White House, despite the common knowledge of at least 8 people, w/ whom Trump communicated. Was it on his personal cell phone, or a burner phone? It really wouldn't matter, if they could-- though I'm not sure if they can, or will-- subpoena the phone records of McCarthy, Meadows, and the others who reportedly had calls with Trump, at the time. I would imagine that should get them the number of the phone Trump had used. From there, one would think they could subpoena those records, to get the full list of contacts.

Though another piece that may be involved, is that White House records had been previously recovered from Mara Lago, where they had not supposed to have been, so some have suggested the destruction of some records.

Even more interesting is the way this ties in with Clarence Thomas & his wife, who had been urging Trump not to concede the election to Biden. Interestingly, the cache of records in which this was discovered, after a battle all the way to the Supreme Court, had finally been granted to the House Committee, after an 8 to 1 vote, in the SCOTUS; the only Justice who voted against having the requested documents being delivered to the House Committee was-- you guessed it-- Judge Thomas.

On a related note, another Congressional Committee just came out today, with bipartisan Supreme Court Ethics legislation-- does anyone else feel a little buzz of electricity, on the air?

I know, I shouldn't get too excited, yet. I mean, what if the House Committee needs to rely on AG Merritt Garland, to enforce subpoenas on the phone records? Or what if this leads to another stall-tactic court fight, that takes us past the midterms, and the Dems lose the House? The Committee was actually at this point supposed to be switching over from fact gathering, to public presentation of the questioning of key witnesses, and the laying out of their overall findings.

Still, I can't stop myself from at least peeking at that wishful Dreamland, in which Judge Thomas gets impeached, & the Dems get one of their Justice picks back. Though I'm guessing that would take 60 votes, in the Senate? At least, I hope that some of this news will help Dems to keep control of both chambers of Congress.

If I'm dreaming, don't wake me.

Wow, that's a long OP.... I only have 3 comments

    1. Zero chance T**** wasn't on the phone between 11:17am and 6:54pm on January 6th. Obviously, he was committing his part of the sedition plan in the early part of that timeline at the Ellipse, but we KNOW he made calls once the rioting started...

    2. John Bolton is calling T**** a liar, for probably the 37th time since January 6th, over the burner phone thing. ZERO chance the former liar in chief has never freaking "heard the phrase" burner phone, although it's slightly more believable for somebody who doesn't read anything.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/bolton-says-recalls-trump-using-211400046.html

    3. (you may not like this one, but since you brought it up.....) I personally don't see grounds for anybody to impeach Clarence Thomas over his wife's texts...... yet. It would suffice at this point if he announced NOW that he would recuse himself from any case even remotely connected to the 2020 election and aftermath. That IS warranted, but impeachment is not at this point.

Nixon, 18 damning minutes initially 'omitted'.
Trump, 7 hours plus, what a ****ing joke he is making of the rule of law and congress.

There's no case, never has been or will be a case. For the last six years now, people have chased a dog's tail trying to get Trump in jail and it's actually hilarious at this point.

We await when everyone admits they 'exhausted all options' and just lets the man die an inglorious death somewhere in mar lago or ny or who cares.

I'm for that, but until that celebratory day, people have jobs that require them to track down breaches in the law and the 1/6 Committee can fill in the gaps..

That's why I took that quote, for part of the OP, with Trump's quote,"I have no idea what a burner phone is, to the best of my knowledge I have never even heard the term," because I found it funny, the way I could both hear, & picture, Trump making that claim which, supporters and opponents alike, would just have to know, was a lie. The article could have almost included a parenthetical, "wink, wink."

Oh, I know that's a pipe dream. But it sounds like this new legislation has a decent chance of passage, which would then ensure, that Thomas would do the ethical thing.

Well, we know that Trump called Senators to reach Tuberville, and eventually actually talked to him on the phone while the 1/6 riot was in full swing. I wonder if these calls have been omitted from the call logs.

    https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/08/poli...ville-trump-misdialed-capitol-riot/index.html

My guess: This is a poor attempt in a cover up. Let's see if it will succeed.

It doesn't matter - committee is just a waste of time and money. In 9 months it will go away having accomplished nothing. It isn't going to sway anyone's opinion. Trump is not going to jail and, if he runs, will be president in 2024

Starting next year the Republicans will have their committees and investigations and the left will disregard while the right will be in glee

Meanwhile our country continues to go to crap with this never ending BS

Do you not think it is an issue they are trying to hide these items? If this was a Democrat that had deleted 7 hours of logs — against numerous record keeping acts — in the night of an attempt by their supporters to stop a national election, would you shrug so indifferently?

You should petition the mods to change your name to RepublicanNationalist as it is more apt seeing your views. An American Nationalist supports their country and its institutions and you only seem to do so when it benefits Republicans.

It is an issue - just like Hunter's laptop is an issue. etc

Both sides only care when the issue is with the other party

    Nothing will result from this

Just like nothing will result from the laptop investigation

The issue with the Hunter laptop — for me at least — is that it was strategically planned right around the election (election interference) and never really linked the President to it. I have not issues with those links being thoroughly investigated however but the links to the President from a known crackhead are shaky at best.

Many Republicans don’t want the issues surrounding trump investigated at all. That you are comparing actions taken by a civilian crack head versus the then president of the United States and his staff and acting like they have similar weights is concerning.

As the federal judge said, it seems most likely Trump is guilty of federal crimes. I would like to see some bookies setting the odds on whether or not Trump is guilty of a crime.
