I'm not going to walk into a store, stand next to a person, and walk out unknowingly infected with a drug addiction.

Do you think that if Coronavirus wasn't contagious, and the estimates were that we would lose 70,000 old people, don't you think we would still shut the country down and try to not let that happen? I do. If that's the case, then Coronavirus being contagious isn't the whole story for why we care about old people dying from this, and are trying to prevent, while we don't care about young healthy people ODing and aren't trying to do much to prevent it.

No, but you could certainly be married to a drug addict, and walk away from the experience unknowingly infected with something you really didn't want. Plenty of spouses of addicts have had that happen to them.

Absolutely true. But still not the same as an invisible highly contagious disease that can spread to any person even if you're only around an infected person for a short time and only once. Drug addiction doesn't remain on a surface for hours or days at a time meaning you can get it even if you were never around another person close enough to catch it directly.

Yes addiction it's their own fault. Has nothing to do with gigantic drug companies screwing everybody with oxycontin etc. Great job GOP.

The GOP war on drugs is just wonderful. How many decades before we figure out it doesn't work. Maybe we could try treatment and an actual mental health system.... Of course no sacrifice is too great to save the greedy idiot GOP Rich from paying their fair share....

No, it has nothing to do with that. Nobody forced you to take OxyContin in excess, or to keep taking it after it’s needed. That is 100% you’re choice.

alcohol is a choice, you do not get drunk from being around others

they should have smoked pot vs drinking alcohol as no one OD's on marijuana

why do republicans support the war on drugs, the war on drugs ruins more lives than the drugs themselves ever could

how come people can't buy alcohol and cigarettes online, during a pandemic people having to leave the house to buy these items is a danger to the public

the reality is, probably most of the people on this tread have done drugs when younger and how many got addicted

how many people know someone caught doing them and their life was ruined, getting caught is the real danger for most

I think we should quarantine Tucker Carlson, or just tape his mouth closed.

Because they believe addiction is a "sin", and they're very religious people. So, instead of treating the addicts and trying to help them, the Republicans want to focus on banning the substances themselves. I believe a much better approach would be to regulate hard-core drugs (not alcohol and weed), make them available with a lot of conditions, and treat the addicts and try to get them clean.
