i promise you that weapon will not be used when it is assumed the suspect is reaching for a gun or has one in hand.

So you're basically saying there is no safe way to engage law enforcement. Weird, I have interacted with police "My share" of time and every time I have been armed, and I have yet to be mistreated a single time, then again, I'm pleasant, respectful and conform to commands. There is hardly an argument that civil disobedience is far greater today then at any time in history! Everyone thinks they can control the situation when confronted by law enforcement, and that's what is driving the attitude of most Officers today. Regardless of how many are killed with raised arms it's still better advice then putting your hands anywhere else ;)

I blame both. There is a bad trend of hiring war veterans to be cops. The training for both conflict and in a heated situation, things like this can occur. It's no coincidence that she was the only cop on the scene to fire. Firing bad cops doesn't help, because they simply leave their jurisdiction and get hired at a different one and end up in the same trouble, they got fired for.

The problem (and has been demonstrated in quite a few studies) is that education is the key. Jurisdictions that require a college degree have a significant decrease in the reports of negative interactions with police. Considering you are allowed to carry a firearm, arrest at will and be frequently exonerated when you do shoot, I fail to see why we don't require this prerequisite. We expect lawyers, doctors and other professionals who don't carry the same weight of responsibility, to be graduates of higher education, yet higher education is not required when you have "police powers".

Until jurisdictions start treating this job as a professional one and not just blue collar, we will continue to have this issue. And for the love of God, please stop hiring war veterans to police American citizens!!!!

They are not trained to do this for several good reasons. Center mass is the largest part of the body and has the best chance for a hit. I don't think that cops are blood thirsty killers (or why wouldn't they go for head shots, that are guaranteed to put someone down if hit) and are trained to hit the largest part of the body. Why? It's easier to hit the body rather than a limb. You aim at a limb and miss, the chance for collateral damage goes up sharply and errant shots can go anywhere. You shoot at a leg and miss, it can ricochet off the pavement and find itself going anywhere.

The problem is when they decide to shoot...not at what.

Not with the new AG in office. He has already stated that they shouldn't be so involved in local matters. A sad blow to Civil Rights, if he goes through with that line of thinking.....

Why wouldn't you hire a war veteran?? They know how to think under lots of pressure, and work under rules of engagement that sometimes make it harder to legally shoot than it would be for a police officer. What is your reasoning for not hiring veterans?

You can't speak for me or anyone else.
Folks like you will always defend these cops.
I remember when the young man was shot and killed while laying face down and handcuffed.

Parenting. I don't know about you folks, but mine taught me from an early age to not challenge or argue too much with people who carry guns on their hips for a living.

If they are guilty of wrongdoing, then charge them with murder. If they are not guilty, though, accept the verdict and move on.

    Really what was The danger.

What danger was she in from an unarmed who was moving away from her.

You probably think JW Milam and Roy Bryant were justified.

I remember how you never get the facts nor the law straight in these cases and end up with nothing but throwing the race card.

Dear parents: Please teach your children well.......to act with respect toward cops, follow their commands and don't resist arrest. If you have a complaint there will be a judge later who will listen to your story. Thanks.

Going towards your vehicle when told to stop??? How is that NOT a threat? It would only take a split second to retrieve a weapon and shoot at the officer. Also, the officer said she could smell the chemicals in PCP, which I'm pretty sure I read they found PCP in his system afterwards. So yeah, it was plenty justified.

Maybe cops getting killed doesn't bother you, but here's the video of a cop being murdered by a white savage thug after walking back to his car.

Maybe screaming that while violently resisting arrest will make a cop pause to reflect. I wouldn't bet my life on it, though.
