"Two accidentally shot in church while discussing church shootings"

"KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A man accidentally shot himself and his wife at an east Tennessee church on Thursday while he was showing off his gun during a discussion on recent church shootings, police said."

Truth be known, the majority of these guys packing see themselves as Chuck Norris but in reality are just another Barney Fife

I got some lol out of that. The NRA pushes a fantasy, but reality sometimes pushes back.

"Somebody else walked up and said, 'Can I see it?'" Parks said. "He pulled it back out and said, 'With this loaded indicator, I can tell that it’s not loaded.'"

    He pulled the trigger.

"Evidently he just forgot that he re-chambered the weapon," Parks said.

    ^^^Never recommended.

Accidents happen. Only the left can love when people they disagree with get hurt. Truly disgusting people.

There are over 14 million CCW permit holders across this nation and the rate at which accidents happen are very rare...

The bullet sliced the palm of the man's upward-facing hand, then entered the left side of his wife's abdomen and exited the right side, Parks said. Police said didn't appear to be life-threatening.

Sounds like a simple through and through, I imagine his wife will likely give him the dressing down he needs. That should handle it.

The chamber should be visually check for a round every single time it returns to your hand.
You never point the gun toward something you do not intend to shoot and
You never demonstrate that a gun is empty by pulling the trigger.

The four rules of firearm safety...
    1. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you are ready to shoot.
    2. Always point the gun in a safe direction.
    3. Always be aware of your target and what is beyond it.
    4. Always handle a gun as though it is loaded.
I'm 53 years old and have been shooting guns since I was ten and I never had an accident or a close call.

The guy was negligent, plain and simple. Anyone who does not take the responsibility of owning a gun seriously and respect it is dumb. It's just too bad his wife was injured due to his negligence.

The idea that he is representative of "the majority of these guys packing" is a lie. The majority of people who carry a weapon legally you would never know they had it.

Is it not illegal to just take out your concealed handgun and start waving it around in public?

I don't think they realise how many of the people walking past them are packing.

Concealed carry laws are all done at the state level so they are all different. In many states negligent discharge of a weapon is a violation of the law. Simply taking it out is dependant on the state and situation.

I think this would be classified under elderly stupidity, alongside driving the wrong way on a divided road, falling for phone and internet scams, and driving into rivers or off cliffs because their GPS told them to.

So if the above example is dismissed as supposedly just an elderly dimwit with a gun, how is the following rationalized:

Shootings now third leading cause of death for U.S. Children

"Though we constantly see examples in the news, child gun injuries and deaths may be even more prevalent in the United States than we realized. A study published Monday in the journal Pediatrics showed that an average of 5,790 children in the United States receive emergency room treatment for gun-related injuries each year, and around 21 percent of those injuries are unintentional. The study also found that an average of 1,297 children die annually from gun-related injuries, making guns the third-leading cause of death for children in America (behind illnesses and unintentional injuries like drownings or car crashes)."

Translation: Let's ban all guns because one old man screwed up.

$20 you don't want to ban cars because over 30,000 Americans die each year in accidents.

I don't consider gangbangers under the age of 18 children. They are thugs.

Tragic but again an agenda driven article. Bathtub drownings took the lives of 346 children under the age of five between 2006 - 2010. Accidental gun shot deaths were 174 and 298 for kids under 10 and 15 respectively. Source US Consumer Product Safety Commission referenced in the book "Republican Like Me" - Ken Stern - 2017 - page 24.

That is not an 'accident'. It is a negligent discharge.

    Children?

    Including teen gang members/criminals?

What do the stats look like when that group is filtered out?
