The second kind of gun nut are the ones with the biggest mouths complaining about gun regulations. They want a gun because it fits some notion they have about who they are. It's all pretend.
opinion noted and rejected as stupid. real gun nuts are those who are afraid of honest people owning guns and want to pass laws to keep their own shorts dry. or who pretend that gun control is crime control
What does Angel Stroud’s book have to do with the article presented in Politico? What is a gun nut? For many on the left the term is a loaded one meant to denigrate gun owners. The presentation of two groups of ‘gun nuts’ is covertly designed to invite argument... any argument over the number of categories or nuances of gun ownership is tantamount to acceptance of the denigrating label of ‘gun nuts’, which is in part, one objective. Their are many motivations behind becoming a gun owner. Part of Stroud’s association of gun ownership, with her book and previous writings, is associating gun ownership with Hegemonic Masculinity, a bias reflected in her writings. It ignores past and the current increase in ownership among women. Personally, whenever I see the phrase ‘Good guys with guns’, I substitute the word ‘people’ for guys, seeing the phrase as gender biased... are there no ‘good women with guns’? As for the two groups of gun owners, what of criminals, hunters, skill motivated, historians, and other varied aspects of motivation? If a person owns a single gun (regardless) are they classified as a gun nut? I own many bamboo fly rods, does that make me a bamboo fly rod nut? How many of a thing must you own to be classified as a thing nut?
Overwhelming and irrational fear of legal firearms ownership on the part of yourself has been duly noted.
And all these years I thought a gun nut was something that a screw on a firearm threaded into, and the really small ones seem to always seem to get lost at the worst time. Now there is something known to lawful firearm owners as an anti-gun nut, these are people who understand little about firearms in general, suffer from Hoplophobia and use the term Gun Nut to describe any law abiding citizens who owns a firearm. Now some of them may actually own a firearm, and of course they exempt themselves from the title Gun Nut, because they have, in their warped mind a reason to own one, they live in morbid fear as such they feel they need a firearm for many reasons, one is to protect themselves from being robbed, even though they have nothing to steal, another is to prevent them from being attacked, though no one would care to get near them, and another is to impress others of how much power they have by owning a firearm, because they are powerless without one. The worst part is, history has demonstrated these true Gun Nuts tend to lose it from time to time and go out and commit mass murders with their firearms. Why? Because they mean nothing to anyone, not even themselves, that eats at their soul and it's very painful, eventually they cannot take the pain any longer and lash out at everyone they perceive who has ignored them, thinking they will be remembered afterwards their evil deed is done and they are dead. And those are the real Gun Nuts, that's sick, but quite true.
Every Colt ever made ? Every Star ? He sold his 70 guns and bought a Harley low rider and pretended to be a hog ? This man is obviously delusional. "At one point I decided I wanted to own every Colt handgun ever made, and my collection got up to about 70 guns, including two original Single Action Army revolvers, then I sold them all and bought a Harley Low Rider so I could pretend to be a Hog. Then I wanted to own every Star pistol, then every Walther, and on and on. And along the way, I met plenty of gun nuts just like me." I would think he is talking about originals from the first Colt revolvers manufactured, and that would be extremely expensive. I have a feeling much of that diatribe is merely hot air.
I would agree with the article you linked that those are two types of "gun nuts". I would also add there are many more types then two. I don't feel I fit either of those categories yet some who know me would call me a gun nut. I have a friend who I have always thought of as "the" gun nut. He would not fit in the same category I feel I am in yet he would definitely not fit in one of the two listed in the OP. Things are not always as they seem. Thanks for the links.
I don't think the term "gun nut" is any better than "assault rifle" it was coined by the same folks for the same express purpose, to disenfranchise legitimate groups of gun owners. I have known many gun owners that have many firearms certifications and distinguished careers, and have invested a great deal of time and effort and resources and personal effort into this lifelong passion to dismiss such endeavors with a demeaning term such as "gun nut"......
The biggest successful “sell” of all time as the NRS’s “good guy with a gun” because many of those you describe as the second type do not think of themselves as anything BUT “good guys” and sure they might slap the missus around a bit but hey! She deserves it! And he might have a few too many at times and get into occasional fights but that does not make him a “bad guy”
Definition 1. from the Urban Dictionary is the way I have always used the term "gun nut". It is a term I heard my father and his friends use on many occasions back in the 1960's
Uh, a harsh resounding NO. "sure they might slap the missus around a bit but hey! She deserves it!" Here is where you insert a bit of propaganda fluff to make legitimate folks seem to condone evil.. No good person, male or female, ever condones the abuse of human beings or animals. No human deserves to be abused or mistreated, no animal deserves to be abused or mistreated. In my younger years I was severely abused and mistreated, and the very thought of it nauseates me. Spousal abuse is indeed a crime and constitutes criminal behavior. If a man "slaps the "missus" around a bit, he needs to be reported, prosecuted, convicted and jailed, and lose his firearms immediately. Form 4473 specifically mentions people addicted or habitual users of drugs, alcohol as prohibited from purchasing and owning firearms. To lie filling out a form 4473 is evidence of perjury and a crime. Gets into fights ? Probably going to get arrested and prosecuted, convicted and prohibited from legally purchasing and owning and using firearms. And yes, the man you describe is indeed a criminal and no legitimate person will ever excuse, abide, aid or abett him, lest he be included with the Original transgressor, as an accomplice. BTW, Who is the NRS ?
The 4473 also specifically mentions and federal law prohibits anyone who has been convicted of the crime of domestic violence from owning or possessing a firearm.
How do you know? Were you shot first? Was he Muhammad Ali and about to beat you up? Did he charge you with a drawn calvary sword?
Stupid questions asked by someone who wasn't there and isn't interested in the truth. Long story short: bad guy made his murderous intentions known. I responded accordingly. He regretted his actions.
