U.S. Birthrate Drops 4th Year in a Row, Possibly Echoing the Great Recession

The US birthrate has been dropping. Especially for white people (if that matters).

Families are not forming, and people are not having children.

Could this be a reflection of the economy, with it being more difficult to afford to start families and have children?
Or is the culture just changing and a greater portion of society doesn't want to start families and have children?

Maybe the fact that women are now expected to provide for themselves, and are having to spend years in college and starting careers, before having families, if they ever do?
I mean, in many parts of the country, marriage has almost become pretty passé.

The United States' birthrate fell for a fourth consecutive year in 2018, bringing the number of people born in the country to its lowest level in 32 years, according to provisional figures published on Wednesday by the federal government. It said the fertility rate in the United States also fell to a record low.​

And what does this mean for the longer term? Will the US population go down?
Will the US bring in immigration to replace its dwindling population numbers?
(If that's the case, the future of America may not really belong to Americans, it will probably be a whole different country)

But, it's not just about white people. Black women are aborting their children in large numbers. In fact, whole communities in major cities that formerly used to be black are disappearing. Priced out of the area, pretty much.

(Now, not that race necessarily matters one bit, but this all does clearly indicate the sort of birthrate trends that have been going on in the country)

People are generally either having children by accident or waiting till they feel like they are fiscally stable enough to have one (which sometimes results in them being to old to conceive). Poor and un(under)educated people are generally having children at or above the replacement rate.

Everyone else is the issue.

Especially interesting in that article was this segment:

I'm going to point out rising housing costs in many city areas as probably the biggest determinant.

But then again, isn't that exactly what we "wanted" ?
The Fed had an intentional policy back in 2008 of propping up housing prices, to keep them from falling. Printing out tons of money to do so.

This was all in the news. Was anyone really listening? (Or are most people just mindless drones who don't care about anything unless the media connects 1 + 1 together for them?)

 

The shelter in place may fix it.
Or.. It may just drive up the divorce rate.

 

I'm pretty sure people just don't want to bring a child into a world that Trump will probably destroy with his incompetence within the next several months.

Whites are being 'replaced' as you put due to the simple fact that affluence has an inverse effect on procreation. Birthrates across the northern hemisphere are in decline i.e. the below replacement rate. Indeed across the world the the statistics show that the richer you are the fewer children you have. In fact the the global birth rate is declining precisely because the number of people rising out of poverty is increasing due to this positive feedback loop. And since the Western (white) world started and lead this trend it is ahead on the curve - hence the richest nation on Earth is also only increasing its population due to immigration.

 

And that day is gone. The America of 2100 will not be an America you recognize. Whites will be a small (and aging) minority. Immigration will be the only engine driving population increase and 2nd/3rd/4th generation Latinos, together with domestic racial 'minorities' will also be having fewer children in proportion to their own rise in living standards. Only new, first and second generation immigrant families will be having large families and only then if they are starting out at the bottom of the economic pile.

Furthermore, now the ratio of male to female students is of 1/2 and women have more difficulties than men to date someone from a lower social status than them.

 

You mean white people. I'm 31, my wife is 30. Our taxes say our salaries were about 140k together.

We don't have kids, because why would we? They're expensive, and loud. I've got too many things going on right now to have to deal with a baby on top of it.

I get it in Africa or some **** where 2/3s of your children will die in a civil war or get eaten by lions, but in the US, it makes no sense.

You'd think not having any money would be a deterrence to having kids but you'd be very wrong.

I think this ^ is a big part of it. Most young girls have a different perspective leaving high school than they had in the early and mid 20th century. A large majority are thinking about college and careers more than they are getting married young and raising a large family as stay at home wives.

 

I would also add in climate change. I don't want to have a kid suffer in 2050 because we failed to stop climate change.

 

Apparently, self absorbed selfishness is a wonderful deterrence to having kids.

 

It's possible that mammal stop to reproduce in some conditions.
