Republicans had their chance to show they cared about the national debt and that they could do something about it, but they have revealed their true, self-serving nature.

You know, we might as well put Democrats back in charge at this point. At least they figured out how to run deficits without also making the U.S. an international disgrace.

By the way, thanks in advance, Repubs, for giving the Dems all the ammo they need to raise taxes, increase spending, and declare a national emergency on climate change once they’re back in power. Good job all around, dumbasses.

When the economy slumps, the government must use reserves like a fire truck would to put out the fire. We are currently in an economic boom, and Republicans are demanding that we keep using that firetruck to fill the swimming pools of the rich instead of refilling the reserves. That chicken will come home to roost.

But not before the Trump administration tries to use their own self-created record deficits as a justification for dramatically increasing military spending and dramatically decreasing domestic spending.

More importantly, it’s more evidence that the hypocrites who bashed Obama over the national debt for eight years didn’t actually care about fiscal responsibility - or any other policy issues for that matter. They just didn’t like home because he’s black.

Trump and his ultra rich cronies couldn't care less about deficits. In fact, when the FED has to sell bonds to pay for them, they just soak up the interest by purchase of T-bills, etc. The know the deficit is destined to destroy the economy in 3-5 years and don't care. They plan to take the money and run to their far off villas in wonderland by then. They've already bought into foreign properties in a big way to escape the backlash. That's their little secret.

In the meantime, Trump & Company will continue to shovel the BS into the mouths of their adoring minions. It's socialism to take our money away minions. We need more to "create jobs." Gotta' be the biggest sucker play in American history.

I ‘liked’ your comment, but actually I don’t like it at all - the self-destruction of the Trump voter is tragic.

Ahh it was the Democrats who took the Republican 2007 paltry $161B deficit to $1,400B in just two years and kept it over $1,000B for the next three years. It was Republican sequester and austerity which cut that in half. All the Democrats are offering is HUGE spending increases for all their FREE stuff. If you think the budgets deficits are bad now just turn it over to the Democrats and see how they explode it again.

Elect more fiscal conservatives and the only place you will find them is in the Republican or Libertarian parties. And we are far from an international disgrace and in fact have more respect now than under Obama.

Excellent post, highlighting the historic record. Is anyone at all surprised that three months into the Dems gaining Control of the US purse we are seeing this?? I'm not.

this has been repeatedly refuted. And it is a documented historical fact that republicans increase the debt by a much larger percentage than democrats do.

Why in the world do you keep parroting this lie which you know is a lie? You continuously make excuses for Republicans in Congress, but when it's Democrats in Congress suddenly the ENTIRE budget is their onus? F. off with your pathetic lies, already.

Show us how much that added to the deficit. Also show us how it was passed without a republican senate voting for it, and a republican president not signing it. What about the republican budget bill passed last year for FY2019, by a republican house, senate and signed by a republican president, which runs almost a trillion $ deficit?

Can't disagree with that. I would like to see military spending cut and all forces pulled out of the Middle East and Africa. I really do not support all of this bombing of 3rd world nations for no discernible American interest. The people running American foreign policy for the last few decades seem to have all the competence of a roomful of monkeys.

The lie is that we went into the worst recession in over 80 years, and you know that revenues decrease during recessions. So, unless you're blaming the recession on the Democrats, then you're parroting a lie by claiming that the loss of revenue which created that deficit you're harping about was caused by Democrats.

I asked what is the lie in my statement

Ahh it was the Democrats who took the Republican 2007 paltry $161B deficit to $1,400B in just two years and kept it over $1,000B for the next three years. Hold on you guys don't allow the "recession" excuse when it comes to your fallacious claims Bush and the Republicans doubled the debt and "blew the surplus" so as a point of order you don't get to use it for Obama and the Democrats. The fact is the Republicans handed the Democrats a paltry $161B deficit.

    That being said.

The Democrats took the Congress back a year before the recession started and inherited. Their plan was to spend their way through it and they created the huge deficits that ran 3 1/2 years passed the end of the recession and only cut by Republican policies. And it DIDN'T WORK. The worst recovery in modern history.

Try again. What is the lie

Ahh it was the Democrats who took the Republican 2007 paltry $161B deficit to $1,400B in just two years and kept it over $1,000B for the next three years.
