U.S. troops in Iraq were told to shoot anyone who looked suspicious or made them feel uncomfortable

You have a tight ROE and actually and very publicly punish soldiers for violating it.

And if civilian death's are not preventable? Such as an Iraqi sniper sitting in a nest on top of a "house" that has civilians in it?

Minimum force necessary to take out the target.

How do you know what the target is if you have a confirmed sniper in a nest 200 meters away? What is the house wired with? Pressure kicks? IEDs? How many other targets are waiting inside?

Then how do you know there are civilians inside?

Also, wouldn’t such a nest be a perfect target for the XM25?

Nice deflection. If a sniper is on a nest picking off allied troops, why are you to assume that the house is full of civilians...when that house is shooting and killing you?

Our troops have zero cover? They can’t flank? They can’t lay smoke?

Whoever organized the operation needs to be court martialed for incompetence before any worries about civilian casualties.

Sure they can flank, AND lay smoke. Then it's time to breach. What's the mentality of your troops that YOU are leading when you breach a house with a sniper picking off your men? What would be the sniper's end game?

It doesn’t take a military genius to see the incompetence in planning that results ina situation where soldiers are forced to choose between being picked off or murdering civilians.

How do you know where civilians are located when the shots are coming from a position? Especially if you're just on patrol...

Let me ask you an easier question since you deflect from every ****ing question i ask.

If you're about to breach a suspected enemy NZ, are you assuming civilians are inside?

What if the target is a sniper, on the rooftop of a nice Iraqi condo? I am inclined to believe that if you were in command, you'd be sending a nice little message to the air force

Was my operational planning so incompetent that I have zero assets capable of taking on a sniper on a roof save the Air Force?

Yes. Because it happens all the time. Your S2 has no idea what's going on in that house, your men are prepared to breach, and you have no idea what traps are in there and what suicide Allah Lover is waiting for you on the other end.

Are you to suggest that command shouldn't zero in on a compound, house, or "iraqi condo" (lol those things sucked), that has a shooter on top?

This is not a conventional war. They intentionally shield themselves with civilians so naturally civilians are going to die when you try and kill the enemy.

    Ask Obama

Obama was wrong when it came to conduct in Afghanistan.

Your right this isn't a conventional war. The response to any difficulty shouldn’t be the conventional war response of “mindlessly throw overwhelming firepower at it”.

You asked me a question, and I gave you a real example. What do you think a commander in chief would have done in situations like this?

How do you think a commander in chief would handle such a war?

Are the civilians helping the shooters? Are the civilians allowing them to use their homes to create murder holes (I assume you know how crappy those are given your background)?

If there is a target in an area KILLING US troops, are you going to put all of your men at risk to eliminate it when there's a drone that can do it for you so that you don't get your men killed? Or do you know exactly how many civilians are inside with your guaranteed intel?

A commander in chief shouldn't be running individual ops in a combat zone.

"Friendly" Iraqi police and troops were killing American troops as I remember and something had to be done to shortstop these shootings. It was a good idea in my view. This happened during our invasion of Iraq?

The correct action should have been deploying the 500,000 man occupation force that Shinseki said would be necessary and then having the proper manpower to vet and train any recruits for Iraqi security services. But Bush wanted his invasion on the cheap and Rumsfeld told him that Iraqis would welcome us with open arms.

The correct action would be to stay the hell out of Iraq instead of inventing a lame excuse to invade.

Yeah they were, hell our own interpreter who lived with us and spent 8 months playing video games with us in the tent decided to strap a vest to himself and blow up our ECP one day.

However, still no, there was never a directive given by US CENTCOM to "shoot anybody who looks suspicious". Even during the days when our own "allies" as killing us we still weren't allowed to just walk around and shoot people for what would basically amount to "no reason at all".

Always keep four eyes on any interpreter.
