"The UK is increasing its support for a global education fund for developing countries by 50% to £75m per year. Ms Mordaunt is promising £225m funding over three years at a global education conference in Dakar, hosted by France's President Emmanuel Macron and Senegal's President Macky Sall."

Yes, and I wonder how much of that will go toward 'global education' and how much will end up in Swiss bank accounts of the great and the good of the recipient countries? Respectively I'd hazard a guess of 10% and 90%. Roads falling part nationwide, NHS in dire straits, local authorities on the brink of bankruptcy, nursing homes shutting down, shiny new aircraft carriers but no aircraft to put on them, an upgrade of our Trident defence which will never be used in anger, nurses queuing up at food banks - and I could go on. And all in the name of 'Look at the UK and note that we're more goody-two-shoes than any other country in the world.'

Those whom the gods wish to destroy . . . ?

Or they could bring them all into the UK and educate them there.

That seems to be preferred strategy.

I say better to help them in the countries where they are, but don't trust those African governments with the money.

You know if these African countries were smart they'd at least use this money (since it's going to be funneled away from education anyways) towards paying off their crushing debt but you know that isn't going to happen.

We're already almost bankrupt ourselves - if we (the west) 'helped' every dysfunctional country on the planet we'd end up being even poorer than they are. As to African countries, and middle eastern regions. they could help themselves by not procreating so much - 6 or 7 children per family seems to be about the average. WTF!
