MOSCOW — Ukraine’s acting president has re-instated the military draft to address the deteriorating security situation and threats from Russia along the countries' border.

Acting President Oleksandr Turchynov issued a decree on the presidential website Thursday saying Ukraine will conduct a draft for active military service in Ukrainian Armed Forces in order to “to increase the state defense potential.”

The decree says: “Ukrainian male citizens who are physically qualified for military service, over 18 years old and older, but who have not reached the age of 25, and who have no right for exemption from military service" will be conscripted.

The decree also mentions "interference of the Russian Federation into the interior affairs of Ukraine" as one of the reasons for the call-up.

I hope Putinists are happy now. Ukraine was the only country ever on the planet to give up their nukes, they spent virtually no money on the military, last year they stopped compulsory military draft....Well that ends now, the conscription is back and I bet the next step is rearmament an the reinstitution of their nuclear weapons program, thankfully they have enormous expertise since the Soviet Union. They probably won't publicize it very much though.

And if it was just Ukraine, the entire world takes notice, let the arms race begin. Well done Putler.

I'm actually opposed to compulsory service except in special circumstances, and the Ukraine is a nation under foreign occupation.

Russia has conscription, always had and always will have, they need a lot of cannon fodder, you know. Ukraine canceled conscription last year but thanks to Putin has no choice but re-instate it now.

Ukraine should have never given up their nukes. It was their only insuranc policy against Russian invasion.

They gave up their nukes, so now Russia invades.

This is just funny. The Maidan's first foray into the east with an "elite" force resulted in mass defections and desertions and was declared a failure. Then they send in 11,000(!) troops and they can't get anything done with a large force instead of a small force. Now they are attempting a universal draft. We are watching a bunch of amateurs play with fire and they keep burning themselves.

Case in point, if people this incompetent had nukes right now, the west would been invading the country alongside Russia. The trend is to try and keep unstable and unpredictable regimes from having nuclear capability. These (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s who would like to see a nuclear war over gay rights in foreign countries are a great example of how psychotic the typical homosexual is. People in the west have lost their minds (and their spines) to be coddling these openly maniacal bottom-feeders.

it would be suicide for Ukraine, to try a nuclear option with Russia. nukes are overrated and have to much fallout with the winds that can back fire on the ones that used it. [IMG]
