the argument would be that when the Kaiser promised his support to Austria-Hungary that it set the inevitable events in motion. Austria-Hungary against Serbia, Russia against Austria-Hungary, Germany against Russia, France against Germany, and then of course British Empire against Germany (which actually turned the war from a continental one into a world war).

The argument further is that if the Kaiser had refused to support Austria-Hungary, the Austrians would've contented themselves with a cursory investigation of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand conducted by the Serbians and would not have insisted on an investigation that infringed on Serbian sovereignty.

And France promising Russia to support them was not on same level?

If France refused to support Russia, Russia would not have supported Serbia after the assassination of the austrian crown prince. The game works in all directions.

No serious historian in 2019 says Germany is responsible for WW I.

As for calling us ugly, thats amusing, since GErmans usually are called best looking people. There is a reson why the most famous models are german. Be it Giselle Bündchen, Claudia Schiffer or Heidi Klum.

Actually I'm pretty sure there are more than a few serious historians who do but I do agree in principle with your first two sentences.

As I've said, it was the British who turned it into a world war. I've always agreed with noted Scottish historian Niall Ferguson who believes the British should've simply stayed out of the conflict and allowed Germany to seize another chunk of France and be done with it. Of course British fears of German naval expansion were probably too great to allow that to happen.
