    Well that's partially true. Actually the Suez Crisis is an incident of the Cold war between the western allies and the Soviet Union. It is more correct to look at it in that light than as a stand alone issue.

    The Israelis hired Egyptian Jews to kill Americans, Egyptians and British in Egypt and blame it on the Arabs. This caused Eisenhower to change his mind about financing the Aswan Dam which Egypt needed desperately.

    Finally, Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal (buy if from the British and French) to use the income from the canal to build the Aswan.
