Firstly stating that most foreigners view the US as criminal goes beyond mere criticism IMHO. Plus the statement is simply not true.

Secondly, if you have read many of the posts I have made in this forum you would see to a large extent I do not agree with the status quo. I have been a critic of Trump (on some issues, even calling him a con man in several posts), US foreign policy (money give aways and wars), immigration policy, tax and monetary policy, gun control, NATO participation and the lists goes on -- so coming to the conclusion that I want a society of robots is simply a wrong conclusion.

I can respect views that attack the status quo from Americans. I can even respect the views of SOME foreigners that disagree with my views -- if they actually articulate facts and not cliches. But I don't respect foreigners who troll here. Particularly foreigners who makes a decision to come to the US and live. If the US is viewed as criminal why do these critics come here to live? If they come from a glass house they should not throw stones. Notice how the person you mention would not state their country of origin?

I don't have the patience to respond to your multi-point thread in depth (e.g., a discussion of Ayn Rand would be a lengthy effort) but I will just make a couple of points. Rich people will move their money as another poster pointed out. We are in a global economy. And my lifestyle is the same earning 80K a year as it was earning 300K a year other than driving an old (but low mileage car). If you think middle class and/or people will not reduce their level of effort to earn money as taxes increase what is your evidence for this claim?

Your life style is the same earning less than 30% of your former income? Guess you had a crap pile of savings and unlike many many others you didn't live up to your income you lived down to your needs. You are obviously a rare bird.

And I said nothing about the middle class. I was talking about high income earners paying more in taxes, not less. And the Panama papers clearly point out, evading taxes is a primary objective of the rich no matter what the rate being charged.

As for Rand, I doubt there is a supportive argument for her that I have not heard over the decades. I simply do not believe in the core of her philosophy that unfettered self interest is good and altruism is destructive. In fact cooperative altruism is the foundation of human civilization. Selfishness has its place, but cannot predominate any successful society. Social darwinism be damned.

That is irrelevant to what I said. I made clear that what I was replying to was
by bolding it. I suggest you now look at what I said in respect to what I was replying to. As you possibly have no knowledge that bolding something indicates that is what a person is replying to I have removed the rest of what you said in that post which clearly is irrelevant to what you are replying to.

Thank you for a most reasonable post.

Firstly, I embrace the idea advanced by Mark Twain: Patriotism means supporting your country all of the time, and its government only when it deserves it.

That is, our country is one thing, and its government is quite another. I'm not leaving for many reasons, because I love my country and my family is here. Further, I took an oath to protect and defend the US Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. It has been clear to me for decades now that the domestic enemies are far more virulent than any foreign enemy. More, the domestic enemies are in charge, from behind the scenes. The puppet masters, if you will.

Neither you nor I speak for the rest of the world, but if it were possible to accurately find out, I would offer a gentleman's bet that my perception is accurate--most of the world sees today's US government, not necessarily our country, as a war-mongering criminal organization. We back out of treaties and agreements. We torture, we kill, and we invade innocent countries.

As our current Sec State, Daddy Mike Pompeo notes, we cheat, we steal and we lie.

    - My pocket v. foreign pocket. Get the difference. -

    Laughable!

So stealing from foreign countries, forcing the people to live in poverty, misery, and to be surrounded by bloodshed is OK? All this from a nation that professes to be Christian???

    LAUGH OF THE YEAR!

    - stole from Iraq -

Not only was oil stolen from Iraq, $2 trillion in tax dollars was stolen from your pocket and mine thanks to traitor Bush's war. Stealing in the form of tax dollars is one of the hallmarks of right wing "thinking". If anything, you right wingers should be objecting to all this war as it is a form of theft against American taxpayers.

    - profit center -

    - liberals get upset when someone says something positive about the US -

    Examples, please.

    - the world views the US as criminals -

Remember when your hero Bush invaded Iraq? MILLIONS protested throughout the world. Their protests were against his treasonous imperialism, not against Americans.

    - One does not trust criminals -

Nixon, Reagan, Bush I/II, and Trump have a rather large fanboy base.

No, you won't have to pay for it. You'll pay what everyone else in your tax bracket pays into the government treasury. Its the government that decides where to spend the money under the theory that the taxpayers elect representatives to do exactly that.

So stop whining about YOUR taxes going to whatever. Your decision is who represents you. Its the governments decision where to spend the money.

You're twisting into knots... Taxes comes from my pocket, I'm the one paying for those programs. Having an intermediary between the program and me doesn't change that they're taking money from me to pay for those program.

If everyone voted for had a say in the gov program you's have a point but since in our system the majority party can rubber stamp any program it want even if all the opposition parties are against, or even the majority of the electorate, means that your silly nonsense about my decision to vote for someone or an other is just bull caca.

The majority party in parliement could vote to spend all the money in canada to build a pink flamingo farm in the tundra and no one could do a bloody thing to stop it if they decide to vote for it. Laws and programs are passed by a simple majority vote. The senate is useless and the supreme court easily bypassed.

So, yeah I'll continue to "whine" about where my tax dollars are going, I don't need permission from you. Maybe if you had a job and paid taxes yourself you'd be whining too!

Nonsense. Its not you spending the money. You have spent your money to support the government thru taxes. They are taking your money to run the friggin government of the people.

And yes, you have just described how "parliamentary democracy" works. The majority determines the direction and allocates government resources as it sees fit.

As for having a job, I'm retired. And guess what I still pay taxes because I still have income. Not to mention the few million I paid in taxes when I was working. Do I complain about government waste and stupid programs? Of course. But I am mature enough to know that the only way to do something about it is to support the opposition and cast my vote accordingly.

Whining about "my tax dollars pay for this or that", when your few tens of thousands a year in taxes are lost in the general treasury, might be emotionally satisfying, but in the end, it boils down to whining about things you don't like about how the government spends ITS money. Once its deducted from your paycheck, it ain't your money any more.

    Oh poor poor you...

It's not the government money, it's OUR money. We pay taxes to the nation, not to the liberal or conservative or NPD party. Everybody who contribute as a RIGHT and a DUTY to be able to say if they agree or not whith how the money is spend, and NO, not just in the ballot box. What you're advocating for is tyranny. Just pay and shut up for the next couple of years.

Sorry, but I'll express my displeasure as I see fit, with or without your consent I might add, where and ever I want.

If you don't like it, skip over my posts.

You poor poor soul who cannot comprehend the difference between the individual and the collective. Your over the top strawman notwithstanding.

And FYI you can express you displeasure all you like, but this is a discussion forum where when you express your opinions, other community members can comment on those opinions. Don't want feedback? Don't friggin post.

    There's no collective.

And stop pretending to be a mod. Just as in real life, you've no power over anybody else. Better luck in your next life!

Huh? Of course our government is a collective as is our nation.

    col·lec·tive
    /kəˈlektiv
    adjective
    1. done by people acting as a group.
      "a collective protest"
    noun.
    1. a cooperative enterprise.

And who the hell is acting like a mod? Apparently you haven't quite grasped the concept of how a discussion forum operates. You want to put your two cents in?

By all means go right ahead, but don't start whining about people who disagree with what you opined. As to this "power over anybody else" - if that is more than just a kneejerk, then you have more serious issues to deal with than quibbling with me.

A nation is composed of individual sharing a common goal, not a collective my little commie friend.

You seems angry... Are you one of those old hippy who's commune broke up once the other members realised you were leeching of their hard work?

As for me having issue "quibbling" with you... Get over yourself! I'm not the one trying to dictate to other what they should post or not.

Now if I'm too much for you to endure there's that nice little function called ignore poster. But you're free to use it, or not.... I wouldn't be the one to tell you what to do on this forum.

Oh you mean a nation is a collective as per the definition of the word. I guess you aren't at all familiar with marx's writings. Its pretty clear he uses it EXACTLY as it definition dictates.

But by all mean, ignore word definitions and attribute a odious political philosophy to one who uses it in the correct fashion.

HAHAHAHA! I see that opposition to your own opinions is considered somebody trying to dictate to others what they should say or post. An interesting perspective to go thru life with. nice projection tho.

Too much to endure? well thanks for the confirmation of that "over yourself" projection. You can always take your own advice, but perhaps that is too much to ask.

To be most precise, we pay our taxes to the US Government. I write my checks to the United States Treasury.

The government and the nation are 2 different things. The nation created the government in 1787.

Yep. A lot of savings and now a modest life style. For example, I drive a 10 year old truck. Got rid of a lot of things like large boat (former hobby) that I really didn't need and so forth. The only time I missed having a lot of money was a recent incident that required me to burn thousands of dollars for legal bills (civil, not criminal).

These Jewish Activists understand 'Never Again' in the same way as I do. They also speak about the reality that their ancestors like the rest did not require documentation to enter the US and also that the reality is that not all American Jews are white.

Obviously the treatment of the refugees is only one of the areas where the US is moving to imitate Fascism and not least of course was the way Trump spoke of the 4 young Democrat women. At the beginning of the interview the young woman says she never believed it would happen again. The US is certainly heading in that direction..
