I am still pretty non-interventionist, but I think there could be a case for interventionism around the world, just maybe not in the Mid East, considering the amount factions, deeply integrated religious factions, and all the suffering that has occurred from US interventionism in that region. Someone could make the case that interventionism in Venezuela could be a good thing. If Maduro the dictator is ousted and Guaido is put in, more than likely the country will turn towards capitalism, and do way better economically, politically, and socially. All I am saying is that I think we as Americans often times have a simple minded approach to foreign policy and intervention, looking at solely our side, and picture, without regarding the citizens of the country that is in trouble. Sure, some dictators maybe should stay in power for ex. in the Mid East, if they're better than another faction, like jihadists, etc., but aside from this, we just shouldn't be so narrow minded. Thoughts?
You are right that as far as the American public is concerned they are fairly ignorant of its government's actions with foreign countries. We always experience blowback from our actions and seem to learn little. The recent immigration wave from Central America is a perfect example of how the US has interfered with these counties, in this case the rise of the Central American gangs is a direct result of our drug war that started back in the 80s. We poured billions of dollars to subjugating these countries to our will not realizing all the potential outcomes, one of which is the wave of asylum seekers we now see.
The US presence in the Middle East has always been about oil and Israel. Second to that is keeping radical Islam from taking over, Islam not the US or Israel is the biggest obstacle to peace in the middle east. Presently Venezuela is rudderless and adrift. It's difficult to say what any US intervention would do.Venezuela's vast resources would be tempting to any intervening power to exploit. I hope that the Venezuelans are able to figure things out for themselves and remain sovereign.
