    1. A group of President Donald Trump's fellow Republicans in Congress introduced legislation on Tuesday intended to prohibit anyone employed or sponsored by the Chinese military from receiving student or research visas to the United States.

The bill would require the U.S. government to create a list of scientific and engineering institutions affiliated with the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and prohibit anyone employed or sponsored by those institutions from receiving the visas...

    2. Sinophobia is at its height in America. The rise of anti-Asian sentiment, in particular anti-Chinese, does not come as a surprise as most white Americans have been raised up in a racist environment and bombarded by anti-Asian propaganda from politicians and the mass media all the while.

The so-called trade war is being used as a diversionary tactic by Trump to deflect attention from his domestic problems. More threatening to China, however, are the less publicised US moves such as banning US high-tech exports to China, playing the Taiwan card, restricting Chinese investment in the US, banning Chinese takeover of near bankrupted US firms, barring all US companies from using the equipment of Huawei and other Chinese telco companies, increasing US naval activities in the South China Sea, resorting to US gunboat diplomacy through the Taiwan Strait, etc.

Such hostile moves against China can be compared to "cobra bites" while the so-called trade war is just an "ant bite" to China. China should not let such US "cobra bites" go unchallenged and should include them in the trade talks.

Trump can raise the tariffs on Chinese goods to whatever astronomical levels he likes. China will just have to sit back and laugh at the US self-inflicted folly. After all, it is the US businesses and consumers that are being fooled by Trump to fill up the US coffers with billions of hard-earned dollars.

China should not worry about the false reasoning that the US has the upper hand in the "tariff number game" as a result of the huge US surplus. China has many effective means at its disposal to hit back at the US. One way for China is to impose a total ban on Chinese tourists to the US in order to deal a crippling blow to the US tourist industry. Trump’s tariffs will raise the prices of many consumer goods in the US. Hence another way for China is to ban the export of toilet paper to the US .

P.S. The bill on Chinese students and researchers was sponsored by some Republicans Senators including a presidential hopeful whom Trump threatened to "spill the beans on his wife" during his 2016 election campaigns. Once a while, those less known US lawmakers would introduce some controversial anti-China bills, most probably as publicity stunts, in the hope of increasing their chances in future presidential elections.

What was the reason for tightening visas?

My great friend, the reason is hidden in the post. I let you have the joy of discovering it by yourself.

Sounds like a great idea! Student and other types of visas for Chinese citizens should be part of the overall trade negotiations.

I agree! This will benefit American college students who get pushed aside for foreigners who pay 2-3x the tuition.

Yeah... that's a good idea considering the number of Chinese spies discovered and the amount of technology grifting China does.

We also need to have a look at Chinese activity on our college campuses.

And no it has nothing to do with racism as the OP implies

WTF are you  about? Does the left not have enough faux phobias, now you want to add "sinophobia"?

Your claim that "most white Americans have been raised up in a racist environment and bombarded by anti-Asian propaganda from politicians and the mass media" is utterly absurd.

Step away from the progressive blogs, you're not surrounded by racists or sinophobes or "anti-Asian propaganda".

We have a trade imbalance and a problem with intellectual property theft, with regards to China. Acknowledging that is not sinophobia.

You would have wasted less bandwidth simply sharing the names of the bill's sponsors, rather than your peculiar rant.

Here they are: "The bill was sponsored by Republicans Senators Chuck Grassley, Tom Cotton, Ted Cruz, Marsha Blackburn and Josh Hawley. A companion bill was introduced in the House of Representatives by Representative Mike Gallagher."

Look how easy that was. No drama, no agenda, just the facts.

Exactly. From the OP's own article: "some U.S. officials have expressed concern about the possibility of the theft of intellectual property or even espionage by Chinese nationals at U.S. universities and other institutions."

    Sounds legit. Not "racist".

It's justified but likely wouldn't make any difference.

Chinese used to require a visa to come to the US, but with rising standards of living in China (and less incentive for migration) some of those requirements were relaxed. Actually there have even been stories of some Chinese working on visa in the US who decided to go back to China because there were better opportunities for them there.

Of course Chinese have pretty much infiltrated all sectors of American industry and government research, and stolen all America's technology.

If Trump talks or tweets like you, all his followers will fall asleep in his rallies because "no drama, no agenda, just the facts".

At least, Trump has a bag of beans to spill about one of the guys in the list, so that Jack (in the fairy tale) can climb up the beanstalk to reach your head in the cloud. :xd:

The US is probably most concerned that Chinese equipment doesn't have American spyware built into it.

You can't be serious. China's economy is much much more reliant on trade with the US than the other way around.

I am serious, but Wall Street is more serious. :xd:

China's economy is much much more reliant on trade with the US than the other way around? The trouble is that Trump and some crackpots in his team think in the same way, resulting in the trade war.

History will show who is right in the end.

Worried you are going to lose your visa?

Or are you posting directly from China?

We should tighten visas for all foreign students. They should all be investigated prior to the visa being issued.

I don't think anyone's afraid of the Chinese, just their authoritarian government.

Maybe Xiphobia would be a better term.

Also, phobia describes an irrational fear not a well founded one.

Hmm - I suppose by your first comment you are referring to America. So you won't go to America. Fine.

Posting from somewhere in the Chinese part of planet earth. Which part of the government do you work for?
