My friend, you have brought up an interesting point that is worthy of more discussion. Hence, rather than leaving judgment to history, it is worthwhile for us to take a deeper look into it.

First of all, it is stupid and risky for any country to rely totally on a single country for trade, just like a helpless housewife relying totally on her abusive husband for survival.

All countries, including China, have to rely not on a single country but the whole world for trade.

P.S. Regarding the reality of who relying on who, let us see what will happen if China decides to ban the export of toilet paper to the US one fine day.

The real issue is that, at least 20 years ago, China was a poor country and needed access to US markets. 20 years ago China's economy was almost wholly reliant on selling things to US markets.

Today it's the same situation, though to a much less extent than it was 20 years ago.

 

If the US ever went to war with China, the US economy would have a difficult adjustment. It would take a long time to get those non-existent factories on line.

During WW2, factories were converted towards military production. Today the US doesn't even have that. Those factories are vacant and decaying in the Rust Belt.

I am seething at the moment. Sinophobia? What a cheap trick (as usual) to deflect from the truth that China is stealing our technology--jumping on the victimology/everyone is a racist band wagon. What a ridiculous thing to say. It is well known that the Chinese have stolen trillions of dollars of Western Technology, infiltrated our research institutions, our military, and teaching institutions. Practically everything that makes China one of the big chiefs on the block was stolen from the west. We have gotten nothing from China but shoddily made products, lying, cheating, and spying. China wouldn't have figured out the electric motor by now if left to their own devices.

 

There is fake news and then their is the truth. China lies, cheats and steals its way through the world. Its ridiculous to deny this; but I understand why you do. If you deny it you don't have to be embarrassed that you have to lie, cheat and steal to get anywhere.

I disagree. I think the Chinese Exclusion Act should be brought back into play. The Chinese are stealing our technology, especially our military technology, and using it against us. Letting them in even with visa's is, in my opinion, a really bad idea.
