If people think this isn’t the start of WWIII they’re out of their minds. The longer we wait the more prepared they will be and the less prepared we will be.

I am doubtful about the first option because either (1) he really is terminally ill and wants this last big "Hooray" or (2) he really is insane (or going insane) and reasoning might not be an option.

I was hoping for the latter but I'm concerned that might not be possible after seeing this yesterday.

Most Russians don't even know what they're supporting. They've been blocked from all factual reporting about the war.

Large factions of Russians have strong feelings for and against this war, and sanctions magnify these feelings even among those who tend to be apolitical.
We shouldn’t wait for a Russian revolution. We should wait for a Russian civil war.

Why does that matter? Standing behind him based on facts or lies is still standing behind him.

AFAIK, the only Russians that have pitched a fit are some moms that learned their soldiers were not sent off for training drills. A few of them received one last text as their kid was dying and Putin had the protesting moms arrested. I don't know what their rights are as prisoners but it doesn't seem difficult to imagine they could be completely silenced just by not being allowed phone calls or visitations.

We could build a wall to put all the crazy people together to fight amongst themselves. Man, our military just got home. They don't need this craziness right now.

Well, because it's obviously tenuous support when it's founded in ignorance and deception rather than knowledge.

Also, quite a few Russians are "pitching a fit," especially among the younger set, i.e. those not limited to what Kremlin Fox News blasts at them daily on the TV.

Dur!!! You were here. Some people that didn't even vote in the presidential election in 2020 went across the country and joined in a mob attack against POLICE OFFICERS and made threats against our then seated-VP based on an outright lie. Since when is the truth necessary for some people?
Oh, that did sound bad. I didn't mean to minimize what those angry parents of dead soldiers have been facing. Sorry.

I'm glad to hear that the younger set is paying attention and getting involved. Now, that I think about it, I don't recall ever seeing a photo of Putin with any younger looking people around. I wonder if he even had those voices on his radar when he started this craziness.

Good question. Putin is old, so he probably doesn't understand his nation's youth too well at all. He didn't understand Ukraine very well at all, either.

And as sanctions bite deeper...that may happen sooner rather than later.

Right. The Russian people have a choice to make: McDonald's, iPhones and Nintendo, or Putin.

Not much of a choice, if you ask me

I think Putin made that choice for them.....it's coal oil lamps and Dostoevskys Crime and Punishment?

What's your best guess for India? They haven't come out against him the last I heard.

I've returned to Apple fandom ever since they made the switch from Intel to their own chips in the Mac. Got a couple of new systems on the way and I'm an Apple+ subscriber. Meanwhile, the poor Russians only get this now:

My hat is off to you, man. I have an Ipod and I will never, ever, ever, ever buy an Apple product. I can't do it. The only reason I hang onto it is because my kids gave it to me. Other than that, it would have gone straight back.

It does NOT sound like Putin thought any of this through which just seems beyond crazy. Who wakes up and says "Let's invade another country today" with seemingly NO planning?

Putin seems to think he knows better than everyone else and ignores advice because of this. Reminds me of a certain other tyrant, but naming him might upset some people

    Yeah...that's interesting?

    They haven't come out against...officially.

I don't think they're great fans of Putler though.

All of the BRICS countries are hesitant to come out against Russia's invasion in any official capacity.

I thin this is the key point - what exactly can China give. I think we can cross any large kit off the list. So what does Russia need apart from more tanks, APCs, men who will fight & competent commanders?

Will Chinese PGMs work with Russian delivery systems? The one thing that did occour is trucks. The Russia army is low on trucks. China could drive a bunch across the border no worries. That would certainly help and would barely be noticed.

That aside, China can just sit back & watch Putin self destruct. Whatever happens fro mhere Russia is badly wounded. China will be able to buy whoever is in charge plus a bunch of inportant industries etc. for kopecks on the ruble. In a few years Moscow will just be a branch office of Beijing, and the only way to break free will be to align with the west. Too funny!
