Rep. Ruben Gallego pushes for the VA to strip benefits from service members and veterans who stormed Capitol (msn.com)

    Yepp. I 100% support this.

    Traitors should not receive benefits.

It is estimated that 20% of the insurrectionists were military or former military.

    Discuss.

Yes, this thread is in the right forum, as the illegal, armed, murderous, extreme right-wing trumpsucking maga crowd insurrection of January 6th, 2021 was an attempt to overturn the results of a presidential election.

Under what law does the VA have the authority to do so?
Would it apply to just those at the capital that day or to any and all insurrection and anarchy and attacks on government installation and persons?

Should retirement benefit packages be stripped from public teachers who participated in disorderly protests that turned violent?

Same thing with people fired for misconduct. Should they never be able to have any job again?
And since that's not really the case, should they even really be fired in the first place?

(sorry for going off-topic. I know that is a different issue, although related to what you brought up)

I doubt they will get life sentences or the death penalty so what are they supposed to do without money once they finish their prison terms?

If they were the ones committing criminal trespass or assault, then yes.
Strange to see so many pointing fingers at other events — this was a literal insurrection (as per the definition) that was attempting to invalidate the will of the people. Even if your “team” lost how is everyone not screaming throw the book at them.

In my opinion, that post is disingenuous in so many different ways.

I'm wondering how could they be "attempting to invalidate the will of the people" when they thought that was not what the "will of the people" (as you put it) actually was?

I wouldn’t talk about disingenuous if I were you...

They listened only to lies that pushed the narrative they wanted and ignored actual evidence including our court system. Your “it’s what they thought was right” has been used to justify every injustice known to man — that doesn’t fly.

Exactly. Of course, it would damage his defense claim that he didn't order the insurrection.......... ;)
