Still wanting it to be untrue?

Still want it to be involuntary, and in need of a free money fix?

Wow, you really hate hard work and self-sacrifice, dontcha.

Absolute bollocks. Anyone can do it, if they're determined.

There is no 'abject' poverty in America. There is only poverty as a lifestyle choice.

Yeah, right, a family of four living on less than $25K* (less than half the median family income) a year is not "abject". Just dirt poor.

In a country where the obesity rate is the highest**, is that a matter of "lifestyle" as well?

Nope. It's a country that has lost control of itself. And without a National Healthcare protection the cost of obesity in terms of illnesses will be born by those who can afford it least.

    Meaning lower life-spans ...

Just who are you responding to? The world at large?

Quote the person so, at least, they know ...

Who is stopping the person making $25k from making $50k?

    Wrong!

You fallaciously alleged that EVERYONE in poverty CHOOSE to be there.

I exposed that as utterly bogus since millions of children are BORN INTO poverty which means that they did NOT have any choice.

Why do you never actually say anything? It's a strange debating tactic, given it means you can never actually hit home.

nobody is taking it by force. You, and your neighbor, have voluntarily agreed to the social contract.

Agreed. Americans are ingrained with the idea that riches equal success - and all the rest is meaningless.

    A shame, really ...

My neighbor made no agreement with me, as far as I'm aware.

Yes, you said that, but I can't remember my neighbor ever entering into any sort of contract with me. So I think you're wrong about him having agreed to any such contract.

But I just showed you that you both voluntarily agree to the social contract, and will both be paying your taxes

Ask a slum dwelling Bangladeshi if they'd be poor on $25k a year. Seriously, you people have a very very warped understanding of the word 'poor'. Further, you have no understanding of the difference between involuntary and elective poverty. In a rich western nation with ample welfare etc, ALL poverty is elective. If that family on $25k is doing ANYTHING AT ALL to waste a single cent of that money, then they are not poor, they have simply chosen a lifestyle they prefer. When I say 'anything at all', that includes living in areas where they can barely afford the rent, smoking, drinking, gambling, eating fast food, entertainment, smart phones, tvs, new clothes, new shoes, drugs, tattoos, etc etc. And they sure as heck ain't poor if they're fat. The universal truth of the extremely poor ... is that they're always skinny. That's what real poverty is .. not enough food to maintain even a lean body weight.

PS: I live with nationalised healthcare, and we have an enormous number of obese people. So does the UK. If you think that's the solution, you're not paying attention. And the cost of obesity should always be on those who choose it. You choose the expensive option? You pay for it. And finally, yes of course obesity is a choice. Jesus .. what planet are we on?!?

But he never negotiated any contract with me. He never agreed to any contract with me. So you're obviously mistaken about the existence of this contract between me and him.

I am a member of society, so if he made any contract with society I would certainly be aware of such a contract. .

We're discussing adults. You know, the people who make the decisions to remain poor?

More importantly, what sort of adult doesn't do everything in their power to ensure their children leave poverty behind? Yep, you got it. Those who CHOOSE poverty (or rather, they choose the lifestyle that ensures it).

Some people ignore everyone they disagree with. It makes for a great echo chamber.

No, I did say that the privileged take people's property, because they most certainly do, and I just finished explaining to you exactly HOW they do: by legally owning others' rights to liberty, they force others to give them their property in return for PERMISSION to exercise their rights.
