The doses that they give for lethal injection would render an elephant unconscious. There is zero chance this inmate would have any perception of anything

Depends. I believe there's a case where it didn't work due to the inmate extreme hard drug usage in his life and usage of an alternative sedative since the europeans companies won't sell the original for execution purpose.

These patients are given doses not meant to kill you. Safe doses, compatible with maintaining physiological homeostasis are administered to surgical patients. That is how medicine is practiced.

There is no regard to medical safety while administering lethal injection
The doses for lethal injection are extraordinarily massive. They are not administered with the goal of maintaining cardiac output and blood pressure. They are not physiologically reasonable doses. The recipient will know nothing

These cases happen when patients are under dosed. You must remember, anesthesia is administered with the goal of keeping you alive.
Not so for lethal injection. The doses are massive with no regard to safety or keeping you alive for hours during a surgical procedure, and with zero chance of experiencing awareness

    It doesnt "depend".
These doses will knock any person out.
And no inmate is habituated to these drugs.

Propofol is the chosen drug in the operating room because it wears off in minutes whereas these other drugs have long duration. It is used so you can wake up quickly with little side effects. Midazolam and fentanyl will most certainly render you effectively and completely unconscious, for a long time. You will be long dead before they wear off

    No sweat.
Rest assured, those doses are massive.
If the IV is in the vein, it will work flawlessly.
They should have a central line placed for guaranteed IV access.

Well, a doctor might miss the vein. I’m in favor of firing squad or hanging - if done right the death is nearly instant.

My understanding is that the lines are put in place by medical technicians and not nurses or doctor since their orders and oaths don't condone executions. In some cases the line came off the arm of the inmate, as mentionned in the documentary I've posted previously.

A good central line won't come put

I'm not arguing for lethal injection. Just talking about the realities of the procedure

And, ....someone might miss their shot.
Let's just assume we have capable people involved. There are always "what ifs" in every scenario

Did God use WinZip to squeeze two of every species on to the Ark? Where did the water come from to "cover all the high hills?" How did we get the three major racial groups from Noah and his family?

Those are things that religious people tend to avoid or claim that the almighty god would have a plan for everything.

It's not like theres some great mystery over how to kill someone painlessly. You annihilate their brain quicker than the pain signal can reach their consciousness. Problem solved.

On you tube, there are awesome WWII videos of hangings and firing squads. All shown worked to perfection. Actually the prisoners never protested.

Murder is murder whether it is being done by an individual or the state. Torture is torture whoever it is being done to. If states support murder and torture it tells the world their moral values.

This is not a discussion pertaining to the physical possibilities of religious tales. This is a discussion pertaining to the death penalty, and how such existed even during biblical times.

    Proposal:
Everyone on death row can opt-in to be executed by firing squad, and if they survive, they're taken off death row.

This will be cheaper, and adds a further dynamic to execution: if ones execution is unpopular enough, theres a chance the squad will all 'miss'.
