I have said this here on this forum several times. If you understand what drives much of US foreign policy, this stuff is easy to figure out. The reason we never left that nation is because of its resources. The reason we have meddled in south of the border gov'ts is because they have something our elites want. This should not be some big secret, but since it is dirty, we turn the other way. And act like it isn't driving our foreign policy. The america some of us want to believe in, does not exist. And we cannot tolerate the real america, what she really stands for, so we live in utter denial.

Plus where would the heroin for our epidemic come from if the taliban shut down those poppy fields again? Lots of money in poppy resin. Who is making money off of this? Personally, I think our CIA is using the drug to finance what congress will not approve to finance. You know, like they did with the coke trafficking years ago, which a LA drug agent busted out? But the DEA will not touch the CIA. Not powerful enough for the CIA can get a president 6 ways from sunday as Schumer told us.

The military does not do the mining. LOL. They provide security for our mining companies.

Russia does not have the treasure, only the US does, to occupy all of those bases and place assets in them.

Not so sure. The poppy fields supply our heroin are up and running even as the taliban had destroyed them. No, they do not like drugs. Nor booze. So how do we protect the fields and the transport of the resin? If we protect that, we can protect a mine. Right?

The Republicans claimed we would take Iraqi oil to pay for the war in Iraq. I laughed my azz off. Oil production in a war zone NEVER works.

Oh, that is the old way of doing it. Like the British Empire operated. We could not afford to do this today. So, we invade, depose rulers, try to put in puppets who will allow us to plunder the wealth, resources of a nation without having to also run it directly. In the past the puppet we put into power reaps the benefits, not the citizens. And of course our elites enrich themselves quite well. This is the way the American Oligarchy does it today. We do not want the nation we invade, just its resources. Whether it be fruit for the United Fruit Company, long ago, or minerals, etc. This is our history if you would only pay attention. And how does this benefit our own people? Not much. They get none of the money. LOL

That's great! We have already helped them get their opium production up to record levels and created a huge market here in America to keep it going. Now, I am sure that this mining deal will be swell for the Afghani people also. We are the gift that keeps on giving...

This was when they thought we would be kissed as if we were freeing the slaves, and giving them american democracy!! Then we found out differently, being so stupid as to the religious divisions in the middle east. And that we only helped recruitment for radicals.

Since the Obama administration sometime in 2008. China has a $3 billion contract to mine copper about 30 miles south of Kabul and the US Army is providing security.

"U.S. troops set up bases last month (2009) along a dirt track that a Chinese firm is paving as part of a $3 billion project to gain access to the Aynak copper reserves. Some troops made camp outside a compound built for the Chinese road crews, who are about to return from winter break. American forces also have expanded their presence in neighboring Logar province, where the Aynak deposit is.

The U.S. deployment wasn't intended to protect the Chinese investment — the largest in Afghanistan's history — but to strangle Taliban infiltration into the capital of Kabul. But if the mission provides the security that a project to revive Afghanistan's economy needs, the synergy will be welcome.

A couple US mining companies bid on the project but like everything else, China was the low bid.

If it happens, the Afghan people will benefit just as the Saudis have benefited from oil extraction in their desert craphole.

    You reek of vodka.

    I wish!
No, the Afghans will get nothing! Their president has agreed to allow the Americans to extract the minerals "to defray the cost of assistance"!

Read OP once more, but now with specs and no vodka!!

    Or maybe not!
The Centers for Disease Control warned of record-breaking numbers of heroin deaths in the United States. “Heroin use more than doubled among young adults ages 18–25 in the past decade,” the CDC reported.
Maybe there is some truth to it that the CIA got its hands in that lucrative business.

Now all the mintpress folks have to do is explain why would CIA distribute the drugs in the US, killing their own youth.

Following are some real facts about who and why is behind a big chunk of the global drug trade:
    The Afghan connection:
    But the CIA...yeah, whatever.

LOLOL.. Turn yourself into a pretzel. You're pathetic. There are several countries that produce opium.. Afghanistan needs to get organized and hooked up with a major pharmaceutical company,

Drug smugglers get the death penalty in many Muslim countries.
