Since Al Gore told us that Polar Bears might go extinct, because Artic ice melting, there are more Polar Bears than ever before.

Somebody needs to get those bears under control before they ruin the whole Global Climate Change thesis

Regarding climate change I prefer to paraphrase a tv character once

"What do I care if my grandkids never see a polar bear? I've never seen a dinosaur and you don't hear me bitchin about it!" .

You're right. They've sold it, and with a little training they'll be able to make it, too.

Spain population 46M, 8300 deaths in 6 weeks
Italy population 60M, 12,400 deaths in 5 weeks

Also many doctors and medical staff have died treating these victims. How many doctors and medical staff died treating seasonal flu victims?

Have you yet posted that Trump is spreading fake news about the virus?

We'll see if 40% of the nation gets "confirmed" infected or not... So far we're at 0.05% of the nation "confirmed" infected.

They are estimating very high then.

Math error. You divided by "# recovered" instead of "# of resolved cases". The correct math would be as follows: 38K / 205K = 18.5%

However, this number is severely inflated since it doesn't include people who didn't get tested, had mild symptoms, and just treated it OTC. It also doesn't include people who might have gotten it asymptomatically and weren't tested (ie, "never knew they had it"). It also doesn't include that, out of the active cases, 95% of them are in mild condition. Thus, even if all of the severe/critical cases were to die (they aren't), that would put the death rate down to 8.5% (inflated by countries such as Spain and Italy who have poor health care systems among other problems).

A very high estimate for the USA, but okay then...

Okay, let's use 50%... Who knows how many will get it, but for sake of this, let's say 50%.

Actually, I would use 330 Million as the population number.

Math error. You said 50%, not 70%, so it would actually be as follows: 325 * 0.5 * 0.02 = 3.25 million dead.

However, we are currently at 181K infected, at an infection rate of (since we are trending upwards in cases per day, I will use 25K cases per day) 0.0076%... We have a long way to go before we reach 50% of the nation getting the virus.

Yup, and 3,700 as I type this response, or 0.001% of the nation dead. That's a long way from 1% of the nation dead.

We'll see what happens. Sounds to me like you are fear mongering.

Those 10 to 12 thousand die despite having a vaccine. We have no vaccine for COVID yet. You can't compare the two directly because right now they exist under different circumstances.

^^^ This is all correct. Once more wide spread testing is available, the Fatality Rates will decrease more and more.

There is no data set publicly available that puts the mortality rate currently around 1%.

Your ability to do substraction is starting to border on trollish levels.

Now you appear to think that only 14 people have been infected.

Dr. Brix said that the US could keep the death rate to 100k if we do everything nearly perfectly. And doing everything nearly perfectly means Staying at Home for Months, Shutting down Non-essential businesses for Months, and Shutting down Educational Centers for Months.

COVID-19 is more contagious and people remain contagious for longer as well. That is really what drives the reaction to it right now. It's highly contagious and deadly enough to even those who aren't on the "high-risk" list.

Add to that the fact that we live in a litigious society. Even with all the drastic actions taken by government's in this country at every level, as well as many private sector entities, the lawsuits are going to fly before long. It would be exponentially worse, both in health and moral terms as well as in liability terms, for us to have just let this run it's course without altering daily life.

I don't know! I actually feel comforted by anything predicted by the left! If they go anything like the last four years we haven't a thing to worry about ;)

Oh Lord help us . . . this nation does nothing but ram math and science down students' throats and yet you are telling me that with the available numbers any average citizen is incapable of figuring out percentages? Then what in the hell is all that education for if not to be put to use when the numbers are freely available? Here you go, a site that's current with just such numbers of infected versus dead for every freaking nation on Earth . . . at least TRY doing the math.

This is the first thing I noticed. I felt like I was taking crazy pills.

Anyways, I don't think there's any real need for the fancy mathematics (errors and all), as Dr. Fauci has said he expects 100k - 200k fatalities from the Chinese virus. If you pride yourself on trusting the experts, why not trust that figure?

EDIT: And by that figure, we're about 2% of the way through it, at least based on the # of deaths.
