Interesting video on a new and potentially revolutionary breakthrough in starch production which could dramatically reduce (almost eliminate) the need for agriculturally produced starch e.g corn etc. If it can be scaled up the process is potentially several times more efficient than the natural (photosynthetic) process.

The potential pay off is a huge reduction in the use of land and water as well as all the other inputs (fuel/fertilizer etc) needed to produce plant based starch. The product has uses in both food and packaging (replacing plastic).

Video is about 10 minute long.

Same here. This and intensive green house agriculture have the potential to change the world.

However man cannot live by starch alone! :p
