Trump got almost nothing from Canada in the "new" trade agreement. The EU, China, Japan, and India are watching. Canadians dug in their heels and we blinked.

If Democrats really cared about American workers, the Senator from Wall Street, Chuck Schumer, would point out Joe and Jane American get almost nothing from the new "deal" and then say Democrats would fight for our workers. Will he? No.

It might help your argument if you posted some details, and explain why they amount to nothing.

Claimng the President is a big booger is kind of getting old......

It might help to read the agreement to see if what you say is true. I haven't read it so I can't comment but I don't think you have read it either.

Trump is rapidly isolating America, economically and strategically. He wants to take on the world with the strength of the dollar and the American economy. He uses intimidation, harsh tariffs, and sanctions, not diplomacy, to get what he wants.

So far he has succeeded in isolating America and his failure to sign trade agreements is perfect, he has none. His failure rate is 1000%.

just a new shade of lipstick.

A couple billion in increased US agricultural import quotas only slightly higher than what was already agreed to in TPP.
New copyright term (life plus 80 years)
New pharma patent term (from 8 to 10 years)
    Basically status quo on auto
    Chapter 19 INTACT!
    Cultural protections INTACT!

I'm grasping to find big deal in all of this that wasn't there already.

I think we need to do something about mercantilists like China, but Trump is going about it the wrong way, IMO.

A couple of more years on the drug patents will cost a few bucks, but the Big Deal for Canada is getting away from having to sell oil to the U.S. Canada can now use its oil to get trade deals, over the objection of the environmentalists in BC :(, and that is HUGE. It also got rid of Chapter 11 that allowed U.S. companies to sue the Canadian government if, say, they don't like environmental restrictions.

You don't seem to like the copyright business. Why? I know there is some old COBOL software around :eek:, but it will be a bit before we're up to 60 years. (Ha, ha)

I don't know how Canada got the U.S. to give up the restriction on Canadian oil and the end of Chapter 11, but it did.

You should actually try reading it.

Its sad how liberals think that helping America is a failure.

The agreement with it's $16 hourly rate for auto assembly would seem to benefit Mexican workers more than anyone else

Its a base rate for all the workers in the three countries, definitely a plus for everyone even though many already make more.

    Certainly you can see that.

This means that Trump alone has raised the standard of living for millions of people and you still consider this a worthless agreement and not as good as before?

    That's just unbelievable.

    TPP in sheeps clothing.

Glad we got the auto sector sorted out but we knew there was way too much at stake for all sides what with a few decades of integration already under our belt. Southern Ontario is a happy place today.

The gains for us include moving up to 3.6% of the Canadian dairy industry before we're hit with tariffs, another two years on drug patents, and from 60 to 80 years on copyrights. These are pretty small potatoes. Canada gets an end to the requirement it sell a lot of its oil to the U.S. and an end to Chapter 11 where our companies can sue over actions of the Canadian government. Canada is free to market its energy in return for trade deals.

Canada is going to increase its duty free exemption, but it still won't do much to increase U.S. online sales across the border.

I own a low mileage car and a low mileage small pick-up. I'm just happy I won't have to buy a car anytime soon.

If the deal is so good for Canada, why did they go kicking and screaming?

We didn't. Trump was kicking and screaming and we were resolute, hence what we consider a good deal.

Trump ignored Canada. Then, at the last minute, Canada said, "Ok, we'll sign it!".

So, a rightie thinks minimum wages are a good thing.
Most every single rightie thinks min wages hurts the employer. And will raise the costs of goods.

Trump picked dairy because Canada had made concessions in dairy to get the EU and TPP seals. The entire deal over an above TPP is worth $500b dollars--chump change these days. Trade between Canada and the U.S. is worth 1,000 times the amount of the dairy concession.
This won't impact Canada's share because it's a high wage country.
