Apparently I'm not the only person who's noticed this weird trend, as its currently the urban dictionary word of the day. Perhaps you've noticed a few vaxinistas on this very forum?

    TOP DEFINITION
    vaxinista
A person who gets the vaccine and and flaunts it [with?] high end shopping, trips, and parties

Once Lisa got the vax she turned into such a vaxinista

    Urban Dictionary: vaxinista

If someone had stayed home to attempt to avoid COVID infection but now have been fully vaccinated so feeling free to do some shopping trips, travel, or a party, what is weird about that?

Certainly the "pandemic conspiracy" crowd have been partying hard and playing and working in crowds and clandestine church handling wafers or hugs or kisses on the cheeks to grandparents might not find that to be a relief, but being more free might be nice too.

I am somewhat concerned that a portion of those who've received the shot will become contagious with the virus. Not that I trust the PCR test, but it is interesting that so many of these 'breakthrough' cases are showing up in states and elsewhere like Israel. I hope it doesn't happen, but apparently it's possible.

What do you think is a weird trend? That society has made up the word or that people fit that definition? I don't find either one weird. We make up new words all the time. And, some people have always wanted to appear "better" than others so it's not strange some would flaunt being vaccinated.

Although we're getting conflicting reports and information, it appears that a vaccinated individual can get the virus and spread it. So those 'vaxinistas' who are running around without masks and not practicing social distancing, might well be responsible for the growing spread of the virus (or the quickly mutating variants).

Now that deaths (from C19) are beginning to show up amongst the millions who've taken the jab, will the rest begin to experience buyer's regret?

I guess you should define "flaunt." Doing things without fear isn't necessarily flaunting.

Not me. I'm happy I got mine and will do it again when needed. I'm going to drive to town in a little while, and that will put me at a far higher risk of death/injury than the shots. I'll wear my mask and wash my hands. I want all this Covid stuff to be over as soon as possible, but it's going to continue as long as people refuse to take precautions and put themselves into the path of the spread.

Good for you. If you're happy, then I'm happy.

Herd immunity arrived months ago, and the shot does not contribute to it.

do you understand the likelihood of death from Covid across the entire population?

Do you understand how humans grow natural immunity after exposure to viruses?

Your opinions about all this are fine, but I disagree that we have any herd immunity. Let's hope the 4th wave is more of a ripple.

    hmm
so being vaccinated means you still mask up and keep away from humans

    why get vaccinated?

why do people who "socially distance" and "mask up" contract the covid virus?

what is the likelihood of a person dying from Covid, especially one WITHOUT co-morbidities?

Everybody knows opinions are like elbows, everybody has one.

Uninformed opinions are useless, as are opinions formed from pseudo science and deception and propaganda.

Opinions formed from solid facts and knowledge are quite another thing.

Several studies from California, England and other places have shown herd immunity to have been established for quite some time now.

Antibodies are not all that make up the immune system.

Perhaps I needed to be more focused in the reply. It was in reply to the idea of herd immunity and the growing of natural immunities. For 300 years the people of London did not have herd immunity and the virus did not go away.

I am a few days away from allegedly being fully protected as I have had both shots. I also know someone who had both shots who still contracted COVID. They had the Pfizer ones and I had the Moderna ones though I doubt there is much difference. I personally am not going to be comfortable until there is a month of no new cases in my area or I know for certain I had COVID and didn't get especially sick. We are down to averaging less than 10 new cases a day for about a week. Maybe we will get to thirty days with no cases by fall. Who knows.

yep, first the vaccine is not 100%, even Pfizer is only 95% two weeks after the second shot

and of course what a vaccine does is teach the bodies immune system to fight the virus - it does not put a bubble around ones body to repel it

the chances of getting as sick are drastically reduced though as the body is better prepared to fight it

More than half a million dead is enough to be more than a trivial death.

However, there are far more who get damn sick, with long term negative effects, like permanent heart damage, mental deficits, loss of senses like taste, and plenty more, some not yet known.

Whatever theoretical side-effects that might come up from a vaccine, COVID disease has pretty surely already beaten that race.

Any time I go by in a chock full COVID wards, the idea of skipping vaccine in order to get sick with COVID to be the "guinea pigs" for "Herd Immunity" the hard way sounds nuts to me.

Not to mention the vaccines sound more and more reliably immunized.

But I guess doing herd immunity the "old way" by being sick, just like grandpa and grandma did in Smallpox, polio, and bubonic plague with 10, 20, or 30% death rates and faces and bodies are maimed and twisted from the disease even if survived, why should anything better should be developed! The Good Ol' Days are best!

will people that wear condoms now regret it as a certain percent get pregnant - even Pfizer is only 95%

if one has a weak immune system, teaching it to fight with the vaccine is still gonna be weak - there are many ways to weaken your army, even if well trained

how many died from covid, hundreds of thousands, I am thankful to have been vaccinated, I just hope enough get vaccinated before the virus mutates to something the vaccine doesn't cover

Covid has mutated and become endemic. Like the flu, its' cousin, it's not going away. That is the challenge for leaders who acted as if they could eradicate the virus with ineffective lock-downs and masking up. How do they change their message to basically admit that like the flu, it's here to stay.

Our immune system will adapt and the most vulnerable might succumb, just like with the flu

Covid is endemic just like the flu and common cold. It is not going away and the Covid census around here within the hospitals has been down for months INCLUDING taking into account all of the Democrat voters who escaped their Democrat states to come here for sunshine and liberty. The good news is that once Winter ends in May up north, most will head back to their Democrat states and still be locked down.
