From post 34. Again, what is your point of mentioning the members are black? What does race have to do with the fact military members agree or disagree with this action?

so you gave a list of 35 token veterans when the VFW has 1,200,000 members and the American legion has 2,400,000 members

Any of them members black? Betcha a whole bunch are.

You don't think that out of a combined 3,600,000 members that none of them were black and supported their organization's position? Of course there are blacks who are against what the players did. If a person disagrees with those particular black people they're racists in the leftist rule book, right?

your are not required because you aren't present at the presentation of the Flag

"All other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention"

You are the one who brought up race, not I so go and lecture yourself for injecting race into this issue...as to who supporting what.

If these veterans were true Americans, then they fought so that their fellow Americans would be able to have the FREEDOM to either stand for the national anthem or kneel during it in protest.

America is NOT about conformity. America is about FREEDOM. Freedom of choice and freedom of expression. That is what American soldiers should be fighting for (among other things).

This freedom is for all things legal...it is not something that is only allowed at certain times.

Anyone who wants to force ANYONE else to not legally protest has NO IDEA what America is truly about. NONE. And they should be ashamed of themselves for trying to take away that freedom from their fellow Americans.

Why does it have to be "required"?? If you are a patriot as you say, you are disrespecting the flag by not standing up whether you are at home or not. Does the Flag Etiquette, or code as you say it, make a distinction whether you are at home, or not?

The entire protest thing is about race, the liberal media is calling Trump a racist because it it. If you think it's not about race then call CNN and MSNBC and tell them to Dhut the F up.

no one is claiming they must they are saying it is disrespectful not to
it is disrespectful to the country and to those that served protecting the flag and what it symbolizes even if they claim their intentions aren't to be disrespectful
so you can choose to be disrespectful all you want but what you cant rightfully do is claim your not being disrespectful

because the code states those that are present
now if you choose to do so not being present good for you, but you are not being disrespectful if you don't because the code doesn't require you to because you aren't present

And who made you the arbiter to speak on behalf of the men and women that served. I noted that several military personnel on this very thread, while not condoning Kaepernick's action, support his right to do so. If anything, you and the rest who pretend to speak on their behalf, disrespect them even more.

lets see the presidents of the two largest and oldest veteran organization from which one The American Legion is one of the original architects of the U.S. Flag Code
so I do believe they know a thing or to what is and isn't disrespecting the flag

now neither of those veteran organizations said no one had the right to disrespect the flag they are saying kneeling during the anthem is disrespectful to the flag and to those that served the country protecting the flag and what it stands for

Maybe people want to change the code. So why shouldn't they be allowed to change it if they no longer want to be burdened by what a group of long dead people came up with? Moses dumped the stone tablets five minutes after Yahweh gave them to him. The Founders tossed their first constitution into the trash can and wrote a new one. Not one person in the organization had squat to do with writing the US Flag Code.

LOL Got it. I didn't realize you needed a code to tell you when to be a patriot and when you can just blow off a flag ceremony all together. Funny, here I thought RWers are "independent" thinkers.

Ever seen a game where the NFL televised for troop overseas to watch? What were those men and women doing when the flag ceremony comes on TV???

It is not for you or them to speak for all veterans/Americans. Or decide arbitrarily what is or is not respectful. That is for each individual to do for themselves. All they/you can speak for is themselves...NOT others. And MANY other veterans have no problem whatsoever with the kneeling.

So you and a bunch of vets feel it is disrespectful. Well, lots of veterans and many millions of other Americans do not think it is.

And just for the record, I DO NOT respect ANYONE until I know them personally and feel they are of high moral character. I served in the military. And I knew many whom I respected. And I knew many who were complete jerks and did not respect. The assumption that ALL veterans are worthy of respect is utter nonsense, imo.
Veterans can be amazing people or absolute scumbags (remember Timothy McVeigh?).
Respect is earned, not given away.
I respect those veterans who signed up to the military to help others at their expense (which I also believe is most of them). But if you think every, single veteran signed up for noble reasons, then either you have not served or you did not know many people when you did.

Disagreeing with protected Constitutional rights? Why not move to a country where those rights don't exist?

Some great points, but the players are defying a rule of their private employer, so the 1st really doesn't apply.

If the NFL were smart, they would have gotten ahead of this and specifically prohibited it as the NBA has.

    Goodell is a train wreck.
