There is no justification for police punching this woman in the head.

It seems they were going to file a charge against her after they didn't like her attitude towards the police. The incident then escalated into violence and arrest.

Police appear to have no understanding of how to prevent escalation of incidents. That is why the USA has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world.

Looks like the police version of the knock out game, but he’s a rookie at it and didn’t connect. And if that cop had hit really connected he’d have a million dollar future as a rapper.

No racial issue here, so this will be dismissed as street theater and that woman doesn’t exist. Remember that?

Animal control poles. snare them, steer them to the patrol car by the neck and shove them in. No bruised knuckles, no claw marks, no bite wounds.

The U.S. has one of the highest incarceration rates because we have a lot of low-lifes committing a lot of crimes. It's not due to police brutality.

One in the cheek and one in the neck and both with about as much force as it takes to knock on a door.

Big ****ing deal, cops can exert a reasonable amount of force to subdue a feral suspect.

But I like the video anyways, I like it for three reasons:

    1. The voice of sanity coming for a woman who clearly understands how not to be a feral savage as she repeats "stop resisting" over and over, cheers to her.

    2. The girl in the red bikini, hotty.

    3. The fact the video starts 2 seconds before the punch and so, geee wouldn't ya know it, we just don't get to see the 10+ minute encounter that led to it.

According to CBS news what wasn't captured on video or edited out was the woman kicked the cop in the nads before the video started and she was intoxicated. Kicking a cop in the nads is bad enough but to expect be treated with kid gloves while resisting arrest after is just foolish.

Much of it is due to police escalating minor events into conflict and arrest.

You have evidently deliberately evaded the fact the police are suspended pending review of the incident. So their superiors considered the incident worth investigating.

The law there is no alcohol on that beach. Still, if she didn't have a big mouth, she would not have been arrested.

They didn't have time to make up a charge or couldn't convince their superiors that they would not become a laughing stock if they charged the victim of police assault.

I don't any "brutality" in that video.

I see a feral suspect resisting arrest and being subdued.

For once you have posted something I totally agree with -- which I guess proves people can always find common ground on some issues. Where I live (West VA) the local polices are run by an elected Sheriff. Incidents of abuse would mean the Sheriff would not get reelected, so these types of incidents don't happen. Also, the revenue based enforcement of traffic laws doesn't happen where I live. I gather that in the big city environments police departments are run by police chiefs who are appointees, i.e., not elected by the people. If so, this is a problem.

In general, I think that a man punching a woman represents the yellow behavior of a coward. Certainly it appears so with this cop.

I'm sympathetic to some claims of police brutality. My brother was beaten up by a police officer in Daytona Beach, FL for being publically drunk on Spring Break. He wasn't bothering anyone. He was just drunk.

But the number of people in prisons due to police brutality is statistically insignificant.

I live at the Jersey shore. The police forces are small, but in the summer, people come from all over to go to the beach, so the towns hire SLEOs which are special law enforcement officers for the summer. They go through training, get background checks, and take classes. They are not allowed to carry weapons and they either use bikes or walk the beach. They can give citations for eating on the beach drinking alcohol, littering or not having a beach badge because you have to pay to go on the beach. They can also cite you for motor vehicle violations, city ordinance violations, disorderly conduct, etc. They also try to control crowds. We used to call them rent-a-cops.
