What this guy says seems to fit with what we see. Why is the Science of Nutrition Ignored in Medicine? | T. Colin Campbell | TEDxCornellUniversity Counselling patients on good nutrition isn't profitable.
It's just not what doctors are trained for, nor would it be cost-effective for them to be the ones doing it. While I think nutrition and lifestyle coaching should be done more, it's not a good fit for doctors. Doctors are trained for acute care, complicated cases, and intervening when a problem is beyond the patient's ability to cope. They receive training that emphasizes the worst-case scenarios, and not nutrition. What's more, good nutrition is an evolving science anyway but hopefully now we finally get the basics in that lots of plants, moderate carbs, and low/no animal products are ideal. There should be more dieticians, and people of all ages should visit them annually, basically. Such people are less expensive than doctors, but could do even more good just as public health has for our health.
