Five Buddhist monks from Vietnam have set sail for the disputed Spratly islands where they will spend six months setting up pagodas in the archipelago, also claimed by China.

It would be very exciting if some Shaolin monks could follow suit to have a chanting competition with their Vietnamese counterparts on the desolate isles in the South China Sea. Those Vietnamese monks may be weak and feeble, but each of them has a "heart of fire" for their country. At the end of the day, it might be proved that the "kungfu of the heart" is a more powerful force to be reckoned with.

Granny, this point is being brought to your attention by Grandpa.

China siphonin' off Vietnam's oil? You must be kidding. Former Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Van Dong had admitted that the Paracel and Spratly belong to China. The Vietnamese have no choice but to blame Pham Van Dong and their communist government as traitors.

"On September 4, 1958, the government of China proclaimed the breadth of its territorial sea to be twelve nautical miles (22 km) which applied to all its territory, including the Paracel and Spratly Islands. Ten days later, the prime minister of North Vietnam, Pham Van Dong, in his letter to Zhou Enlai stated that his government had recognized declaration of the Chinese government..."

Yes, you Vietnamese can close down all the Chinese factories so that you have nothing to consume but the air, that is, what the Malays call "makan angin".
