President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko had stated that he does not see any reasons to postpone the presidential election planned for 2020.

“We need to not only discuss, but to plan the presidential elections as well. We have no reasons yet to postpone the presidential elections, as some enemies or competitors are advising us to do. Political questions will not go away by themselves. They need to be discussed.” – said Lukashenko during a work meeting with Natalia Kochanova, Chairman of the Republican Council of the National Assembly.

According to the opinion of some analysts, Vladimir Makei is no longer satisfied by his position as a Minister of Foreign Affairs, where all the limits of his authority have been virtually reached for today.

In the situation when the improvement of relations with the EU and the US had practically reached its peak, the present chief of the Belarussian department of foreign affairs is facing a problem of his further career. Taking into account his ambitiousness, the only position that would satisfy him today is the position of the Prime Minister or the President.

From that point of view, one cannot exclude the possibility that Vladimir Makei is perfectly familiar with all the power play in Lukashenko’s entourage.

The information received from sources says that on February 20, 2020 Vladimir Makei, who is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and, most importantly, the architect of the “multi-vector” foreign policy of Belarus, had met in Vienna (where he was a student some time ago) with a representative of the US Department of State and with the chief of Soros Fund.

President Lukashenko was not informed about those meetings and their contents. As well as, possibly, the fact that the West had funded the presidential campaign of Vladimir Makei with US $70 million, and the fact that a British PR agency and British Special Services were connected to solving the task of Makei’s promotion.

Nowadays Makei is praising the Belarussian independence and talking about the fact that the National Idea of the Republic of Belarus had not “crystallized” yet. “We need to move forward, striving to develop our economy, to strengthen our sovereignty and independence. The idea will crystallize itself. At first, we need to unambiguously understand where are we headed, because we know who we are and where we are, but where are we going?”

It is impossible to imagine Makei, a professional diplomat with no experience in economics, as an anti-crisis manager for Belarus. However, nobody asks him to do that. Five years of his presidential term would be enough for the country to become a worst copy of Ukraine.

At the same time, everybody understands that while Alexander Lukashenko is taking part in the election, his Minister of Foreign Affairs would not start his “Great Game”.
