build a double fence, with a "kill zone' between those fences, with rifle toweres every 1/4 mile, we can do it easily, in a few months. We've done much more, with much less (ie, the Alaskan Highway, in the middle of WW2). Natl guard troops can man it, as part of their 2 weeks per year of service/training. To get rid of the ones already here? show, 24-7, for a month, on all tv channels, employers of illegals getting flogged. simple, fast, appropriate and very low cost, and effective as hell! Presto, at least 10% reduction in govt costs, which CAN mean 10% reduction in govt itself (ie, in taxes also).
once everyone SEEs how effective this is, you can get rid of 90% of the military and spy punks, and thus, save ANOTHER trillion$ per year, reducing big brother (and his thugs and leeches) that much more. Then you'll be on a real roll and you will be able to get rid of at least half of what remains of govt.
Got a better idea, offer a bounty for private citizens to kill or capture illegals crossing. At least until the double fence is built. Pay for it by charging a crossing fee at the border.
In the old days it was pretty easy to identify illegal migrants. There were basically only three types of people: white, black, and brown. There weren't that many browns. Nowadays things have changed. Basically as more immigrants came across the border, it became much harder to stop more of them from continuing to come.
Illegal immigration is a crime and the borders should be enforced, but killing unarmed civilians for crossing the border is a crime against humanity. When we catch an illegal immigrant, we should fine them and deport them back to their home country.

Mexico's southern border is 541mi of a 15' tall barbed wire fence with armed guards and sniper towers. Try jumping that border and see what happens. The maybe catch, process and deport policy isn't working, we have to get harsher, I have suggestions. A fence/wall towers, etc. built by illegal immigrants. When we catch an illegal we sentence them to a term working the fence. They get work, three hots and cot, we get free labor to build the fence. We build as much fence as we have the labor to build, in doing so it will automatically balance. When we have enough fence to stop border jumpers we run out of labor and have built enough. We issue simple crossing permits, a photo ID issued by our border patrol that has just a few reasonable requirements to acquire. The purpose being good for us and them. We can track who is coming and going, know that they are who they say they are, aren't criminals, aren't diseased, etc. They get an ID valid within the US that gives them legal temporary status. These permits are either visitor or work. Visitor is short term and has a fee in proportion to the term. Work permits require an employer participation, are a one time processing fee, and expire a few days after termination of employment. If caught with an expired permit you pay a fine or do a term on the fence. We charge a border crossing fee, $10 or so each way to pay for the border patrol and promote that those crossing have a worth while purpose. You wouldn't pay $10 to cross and panhandle, day labor, etc. Limit going back to Mexico, if a Mexican takes advantage of our system, hospitals, schools, etc. we bill them and they can not freely leave until that bill is paid. If they cannot pay and want to leave they do a term on the fence. With this combination of regulation, infrastructure, and limitations I'd support rather unlimited immigration Lastly I think the US should buy parts of Mexico. Specifically land on the other side of the border so we possess both sides of the Rio Grande and can straighten out the border. We should also offer to buy the entire Baja Peninsula. Mexicans who own or reside on the property we wish to buy are offered US citizenship.
Fine them? They don't have any money! I do not think they should be held in prison, it does not really seem right. Just load them onto a bus and deport them speedily and efficiently.
The USC has in it the War Powers Clause, Art 1, Sec 8, Cl 11. Those folks could be looked at as an invading force. Now what in the USC makes you believe the USC saves us from the dreams of shooting folks for jumping a fence?
