That's not what you said initially -- which is what I was responding to --

nor even what followed in the latter part of your second post, where you again said: "Slavery was in the US for 246 years."

Say thank you and appreciate the correction. From now on, you'll now be reminded the United States was formed in 1776.

Before that, we were subjects of the British King.

    You're welcome.

When I see an egregious error, I point it out.

    Sorry if it bothers you.

The American Revolution was probably one of the best ideas in the history of the world. If it weren't for the American Revolution, Canada wouldn't be the way it is at this time. It was shaped by the Revolution and the War of 1812, and the rest of American/British history.

Large complex government programs never save money. They often cut services, but any budget cuts will be used to finance some other program. Government does not shrink unless it has no other choice.

Trump should call for the transfer of revenue flowing into the USG into big vested individual healthcare accounts for every member of the productive working class, and dare the Congress to say "NO". ;-)

nobody asked if they saved money. You said Republicans were not for smaller govt, I pointed out Republican health care bill proved you wrong, and you changed subject to programs never save money.

Historically, it was probably a good idea for reasons having nothing to do with ideals. If the colonies had remained part of England, then we would have been in a perpetual state of proxy war with France or Spain or whoever wanted to fight England at the time.

Chump change. Trump/Carson should call for the transfer of the entire public school budget into education vouchers under the control of the parents and guardians of school children. That would be approximately $15K to $20K/ child.
A large political movement to make it happen would appear instantly.

“Record High in U.S. Say Big Government Greatest Threat, Now 72% say it is greater threat than big business or big labor”, by Jeffrey M. Jones, Gallup, 12/18/13.

72% includes far more than the conservative base. The American people are united in their desire for reduced government size and power. They are not united in a belief that the GOP will do what they want.

I saw that poll and told several RP pros that they were set up for an anti-establishment populist to run them through with ease. They laughed - Jeb was already a "sure thing". ;-)

Of course, I could not have predicted that a Trump would actually see the opportunity.

They do not catch on because they are never big enough. Trump needs to make the American people an offer that is too good to refuse if he really wants to neuter the corrupt bipartisan political class that is clearly out to destroy him and his family.

I agree but huge medical and education vouchers just don't have enough support. At this point it would be like Trumps wall. Bold and great but not enough support to make it happen.

can you try really hard and put into words why you think it was weird for the author of "What is Slavery?" to conclude that the Revolution ended slavery??

I have no idea what book you're talking about -- but the American Revolution most definitely did not end slavery.

I ask this sincerely and without snark or insult: Are you perhaps still in early school education?

The Civil War and 13th Amendment - which occurred more than 80 years after the American Revolution ended slavery.

Your vagaries are meaningless. My profession is history and I have engaged in it fully for many decades.

Still, it doesn't take someone who eat, drinks and breaths history as I do, and have for fully most of my long-lived life -- to know the statement "the Revolution ended slavery" is complete nonsense.

If you know history so well then you know the origins of Thomas Jefferson's Republican Party were in Aristotle's philosophy right?

"Vouchers" sell but not well. And large vested voucher that covers the cost of a pressing need, education, will be simply irresistible to every parent or guardian of school children.

Trump/Carson announce it and support will be overwhelming instantly.

Couple it with calling for the provisional credentialing of all college grad to teach K-12, and to form lightly regulated small schools in their homes or offices and double or triple the support. Call it the Emergency School Reform Act. Current teachers would be the most enthusiastic supporters that could liberate them all the layers of school administration.
