Smerconish had a great question today. It washes away all of the right wing propaganda and equivocation and gets down to the brass tacks.

I think he was pleased until that moment when he realized it was going to be a PR nightmare about two hours
into the attack. He's a dick whose only concern was his own brand, not his country. Worst modern President, hands down.

It was only a PR nightmare for trump because it failed. His plan was to kill the leaders and then declare himself a dictator because there was no line of succession. And here is the most important thing to remember: That is fine with most of his base!

Its like when you tell someone over and over not to do something and they do it anyway and get hurt. It's not gladness or sadness.

It's like a silent disappointment and resignment to what occurred.

I believe that he was glad because

    (1) he didn't respond to requests to call in reinforcement LEOs,
    (2) he called Senators trying to get them to overturn the votes (while the riot was happening),
    (3) he tweeted that he loved the rioters,
    (4) he didn't show any remorse when asked about the words he used (saying they were "appropriate"),
    (5) he only condemned what they did when forced to follow a pre-written script,
    (6) he still maintains the lie that he was cheated in the election (without an ounce of proof).

22 views and only vote besides mine? LOL

Clearly most people are ashamed to admit the truth. They know damned well that trump was loving the attack.

He played the crowd like a violin. He got exactly what he wanted and then someone clued him in that he was looking too obvious and he came out with "go home, we love you". What a pathetic piece of feces.

He didn't tell them to go home until the attack had failed. THAT was why he changed his tune. This is key to understand. It is the definitive piece of evidence. It was something like 2 hours after the attack was well under way and the capitol had been secured again.

We love you but go home, he said. Sure, he was all broke up. They were openly trying to kill Pelosi and Pence but trump loves them, just like he loves Kim Jong un.

I voted for Trump... twice. And, given the choices we faced in 2016 and 2020, I'd do so again. Hillary Clinton? Joe Biden? There was simply no way in hell that I could vote for either of them.... One can only hope that in 2024 someone in either party can run for the presidency who isn't either a money-grubbing, crass criminal, a half-witted, geriatric basket case, or both....

That said, yes, I honestly do believe that Trump was glad that a big crowd of right-wing "Maga-hat" people stormed into the Capitol to rage against the Leftist, radical Democrat faction that had made his presidency a LIVING HELL for four long, miserable years.

It is doubtful that Trump was happy for very long, however, when he realized the extent to which things really went to hell, and that he had unwittingly contributed to giving those same Democrats a big, ugly 'stick' to hit him with -- again....

He would have been better off (MUCH better off) if he had chosen the words of his speech more carefully -- along with a stentoriously-delivered message at the end that those protesters must not (NOT) commit any acts of violence!

But, in truth, Trump has only very rarely exerted any diplomatic or careful control over what comes out of his MOUTH. I sincerely hope for his sake, and for the sake of this poor, miserable, beleaguered country, that it does not enter Trump's mind to run for the presidency ever again.

'Glad' is a tough word for me to vote for - but sad isn't right either. I believe he was thrilled to see the initial march to the capitol and, likely, a little tickled when he saw the gallows set up. But like so many here, I think he may have had an 'oh ****' moment that was all about him and nothing at all to do with the safety of the police or the people inside.

I believe he was glad to see the Capitol attacked. He was so angry about losing the election until it made him happy to see his supporters exact revenge on some of the people who didn't support him.
It really made him look like a hypocrite though. Remember when he criticized the Black football players for kneeling during the National anthem? Trump said they weren't being patriotic (In addition to calling them "sons-of-bitches"). Is violently breaking into the Capitol building patriotic?

I wonder how poor Mike Pence feels these days? He was so loyal to Trump. But, in the end Trump didn't give a hoot about him.

The poll Smerconish put out had a surprising result. With over 37,000 votes, 99% said he was glad.

I've never seen a poll of his come out virtually unanimous like that. They are often close.

You have to consider the source and the audience. It would be curious to see what the results would have been if it was done by Fox or Newsmax.

How would you know? You can only speculate and assume. How much did he know what was going on, we don't know the House never developed a timeline never called witnesses or took depositions.

I think you could ask the same about Pelosi and Schumer since they refused to act in the face of the warnings they were receiving and NG and other security they were being offered and already approved by Trump.

Yep... they never seem to mention THAT little detail. OR the fact that Trump asked for 10K NG troops and someone denied the request.

No one could have or would have denied an order from trump to protect the capitol. That is ridiculous. And if trump as the president didn't know the capitol was under attack, then beyond inciting an insurrection, he is also guilty of criminal incompetence.

Just posting random crackpot claims will get you nowhere.
