and stay out of other countries' problems, close our foreign bases, do away with our surface navy and ICBM's. That stuff is worthless, like 90% of gov't in general.
Well, we could cut away of wasteful spending from the military, but 90% is idiotic as well as getting rid of our navy and ICBMs.
You are forgetting something, the only way most Americans can get a chance to travel to exotic distant lands, meet exciting unusual people and kill them is by joining the U.S. military.
US spends 500 Billion for Millitary and 500 Billion for Spying. cutting this 90% US would have money to pay everybody free College and Univerity. or to invest this in infrastructure... 100 Billion would be enough even for Navy, and if you bomb nobody, nobody wants to bomb you.

How much do you think the U.S. spends on domestic spying, after 9/11 ? turning into a Soviet-style police state btw, and just because you didn't do anything wrong doesn't mean you have nothing to fear, prosecutors are known to file charges based on the tiniest amount of evidence or suspicion
The last thing we should do is have a weak defense because at this point, everyone would be looking to knock us over after decades of bullying anyone we wanted to bully.
