    Leftward shift in moral values.
    2001 - 2015 in America.
Gallop survey of the growing approval of what was once considered immoral
behavior. The biggest percentage shift is for polygamy - at what point will this
break out and become the latest hot button issue?
The Left consistently denies this will happen, as it once did for gay marriage.

    Gay lesbian 40 to 63%

Baby outside marriage 45 to 61%

    Casual sex 53 to 68%

    Divorce 59 to 71%

    Polygamy 7 to 16%

    Doctor suicide 49 to 56%

    Suicide 13 to 19%

    Gambling 63 to 67%

    Abortion 42 to 45%

Married men having affairs 7 to 8%

It's absolutely awful. I remember other left shifts from the past. Allowing interracial marriage, letting women vote, allowing them to work and own property, freeing the blacks from slavery. It is such a down hill slippery slope.

False comparisons. True human morality has little to do with voting rights or
the color of your skin - it comes down to loyalty, respect, honesty, respecting
life, loving children, the golden rule, commitment, honest work, saving, caring
for the elderly, not gambling, monogamous families, understanding others etc..

These are being ditched at lighting speed for new faux moralities.
We have a new world that is not only toxic to the few children left, but toxic
    for one another.

First, even if you think your reply will be posting immediately after what you are replying to, use the quote feature. You never know who is typing at the same time as you and will hit the button first.

Incorrect. At the time these, and many other, things we're changing, the opposition was quite adamant of the actions being immoral. This happens throughout history, US and world. What you are talking about is Twue Morality. And that has never remained constant. Every generation has supposed morals that the previous claim are going away and that will ruin the world. Disobey the (God selected ) King and form your own country? Immoral. Allow children to choose their own spouse? Immoral. Wear clothes with mixed frabics? Immoral. Is science to determine the earth is not the center if the universe? Immoral.

I love the hypocrisy of these supposed morals traits when they come from people who, who finding out their child is gay or trans or some other similar "immoral" state, kick them out, show them no respect, lie to their friends and family about them, and treat them in ways they would be upset in being treated.

Again your argument is an old one applied to every change in our past. It was toxic to allow interracial marriage which would lead to gay and incest and poly marriages, they said. Look what happened and what you predict. So why were they wrong about the immorality of it and you're not?

A society where our morality is more anchored in our humanity.
A society that thinks its moral to save a tree but sees no immorality in dumping its elderly
into nursing homes is an example of this.

That old church saying "love the sinner, hate the sin" is apt. We don't want to hate people
who steal or cheat on their spouses, for instance, but we shouldn't tolerate it.
We tolerated drugs and now we have to live with drugs.
We tolerated cheating, no-fault divorce, living together etc and now we have to live with
an epidemic of broken homes, welfare dependency and dysfunctional children.

Well, there was a time when women were trapped in bad marriages and had no way out. I wouldn't force women to go back there.

That's true. Now women think nothing of leaving good marriages in the cause of
'finding themselves', wanting more 'freedom', in love with the idea of being in love etc..
There's a race to the bottom here; the common denominator.
Changing all marriages because of some bad marriages is a good analogy for a lot of
what is happening in our society.
    Note the figures above.

If it's a good marriage then why would they leave it? Just because you don't agree does not mean it isn't a bad marriage for them. "Good" and "bad" are subjective terms and values.

Some men... and fundamentalist Christians in particular, think marriage is like ownership and is a done deal.. They don't know that relationship is recreated anew every day.

On a religious or purely psychological level I disagree with that statement.
In any case the thread is about a litany of issues, and I am right in suspecting
that employing just the marriage issue is a way of excusing the rest of the issues?

    just to clarify

    Democrats (the left)

    were pro slavery
    anti-womans vote and rights
    anti-civil rights
    placed Japanese into internment camps

perhaps educate yourself on Susan B Anthony and her allies

when were you taught revisionist (false) history? Or, did you just assume the falsehoods as you drink the Democrat kool aid?

Assumption error. I am neither Democrat nor Republican, nor do I feel that either of these parties truly seek to represent the people. Individuals within, sure. Just not the parties as a whole.

Left/Right and Liberal/Conservative are not automatically tied to the parties. Dems at one point were a lot more conservative and Repubs more liberal, and have since switched, as shown by your examples. Which is why I limited my comment to the Left/Right concept instead of any given party.

I know little about American history.
It's not what I am talking about.
Most of the things on my thread are today supported by Democrats
(and probably lots of Republicans too.)

And just for the record, whenever someone tries to assert that the Demorats have always been as it is claimed today, I do point out exactly what you did.

Well given that modern Democrats support Marriage equality and LBGT rights, I would not be so fast in putting them on the less liberty category. Republicans are stronger there, but they aren't as big government as the Dems are. As a rule of course.

    Back to the subject.

Who said gay marriage would not lead to polygamy?
    Lots, actually.
People have GONE OUT OF THEIR WAY to assure people there is
    NO SLIPPERY SLOPE.

Quote from Time ca 2007 (paraphrase) "American Liberals don't understand that conservatives
feel about gay marriage like Liberals feel about polygamy."

    Fast forward ten years

The practice of polygamy, or having more than one spouse at the same time, is illegal in
    all 50 states
. But the percentage of Americans who say the practice is morally acceptable
reached an all-time high this year, according to a recent Gallup poll.
Gallup has measured American attitudes toward a number of social issues and behaviors,
such as divorce, same-sex relations, and stem cell research, since 2001. In that time, the
percentage of Americans who find polygamy to be morally acceptable has risen from seven
    to 17 percent.
    https://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/entry/polygamy-moral-acceptance_us_597f6976e4b02a8434b83e4f

    How about this scenario?

Quote from Time ca 2028 "American Liberals don't understand that conservatives
feel about pederasty like Liberals feel about pedophilia."

Because in a generation pederasty (sex with pubescent children) will likely become the hot
button issue. It will come in through "child rights", or "freedom" or "cultural sensitivities" or
even "what we used to do in Grecian/Roman times."

Oh ye of great ignorance. There is no slippery slope, because these things are not dependant upon the preceeding in order to occur. In fact incest marriage is more likely to be the next Target, especially the laws that govern those that are only related legally. Did you realize that many states have laws that prevent step relatives from getting married, even though there is no blood relationship between them? Same for adopted. But if we want to try the slippery slope argument, then you have to go back to interracial marriag, since it was predicted to start the slippery slope of gay and poly marriages.

As for the second part of your post, the argument still fails because we have too many laws that deal with informed consent. Until they are legally of an age to give legal informed consent, and act with them is at least statutory rape. Additionally, as lifespans go up, the law and society pushes the age of adulthood up. So the odds of lowering the age one is considered able to give such consent, is slim to none, and slim is heading for the door!

"Slippery slope" is a form of logical fallacy.
It's also documented in some cases to be for real. It happens with morals, and it happens
with repressive regimes (think Venezuela's slow tightening of policies)
I do see a domino effect with moral behavior.
Interracial laws I can't comment upon - they aren't universal to Western societies, but appear
to be more a local thing. And they work both ways, particularly these days with Muslims in
    Western countries.
Polygamy as an issue should be here in about ten years.
As for pederasty, that's another generation out. Yes, the cause pushers could chose to confront
us with other issues before then.

Laws governing child porn seem to be relaxing.
Porn industry continues to grow (Google 'child porn' and 'statistics')
Virtual child porn is seen as a victimless crime.
Age of Hollywood actresses is slowly declining.
Children having sex at an increasingly younger age.
Gays with boy gays aren't that confronting anymore.

Nothing is really stopping polygamy currently or ever in the past. If you took three or four spouses and bought a house together and the lot of you had kids there's nothing the law is going to do about that.

I think polygamy predates written languages.
