The military theoretically requires a degree of psychological conditioning to engender the proper conformity to protocol and instinctual response to command that other 'jobs' don't. There may be arguments whether such indoctrinated conformity is necessary, but its hard to argue with the results- we have the most well trained and effective military on the planet.

That stuff happens whenever humans are involved, because, well, they're humans.

I never said or implied the Army was the perfect organization. It did a much better job of getting rid of turds than it used to do, but there are those who manage to hang to their jobs for way too long.

And, not everyone is in the dark about goings-on about the base (and off-post, too.) It's still about respect, which has to be earned from your superiors, peers and subordinates.

It is volunteer now unlike when I was drafted. Still Due to things I have said, I have no complaints about my 2 year life there.

That is a fine thing to have done. Something to take pride in.

So you were in much more recently than I was. I was not aware of the USMAPS. I read that to go to OCS today required the person has a degree. Is that correct? I am familiar with West Point since i have been there to see it. I was an internet friend, who had been a Captain, with a Graduate there who also went into Armor and due to his wife having illness problems in her family, he ended up leaving the Army due to that. He wanted to stay in TX to be with her and so forth. We met in CA and he told me more about West Point and other things. I have not heard of the Fox hole but did read up on him.
I was long out of the Army when I took a chance and called my former Company Commander after he had retired. He retired as a Lt. Col and had served in Vietnam after I worked for him as his Company Clerk most of the time. We chatted about his impressions of DePuy and like all i talked to really held him with awe.
DePuy deserves a lot of honor for his brilliance. I guess the officers he fired were not all that happy.
