Dude I once scared off two people by clicking a ball point pen on a metal desk and asking them if they'd ever heard the sound of an automag being cocked and locked. The mere idea that there might be a gun can serve as a deterrent.

Do you? Only if you don't want to break the law.

Tell me: Do murderous criminals normally care about such niceties?
    No, they don't.
Hell, my secretary's husband bought one of those things and had the ATF show up to give him a good scare ffs. They sell them at gun shows too, and every time there are a steady stream of basic rubes flocking back and forth.

I'm simply pointing out that the ATF couched their statement in weasel language, as is common for fed boys.

They didn't include them because we're trying to point out a sub supersonic suppressed round is as loud as a Van Halen concert. Its not necessary to point out that the most common round, the 9mm, is not naturally sub supersonic and so is still loud as **** even suppressed because you get that supersonic crack from the bullet brutalizing the air it passes through.

Dishonest? My dude, a suppressed .45 is as loud as a ****ing rock concert.
Answer the question: Is a rock concert a stealthy affair?

People planning to rob those around them tend to though, and that's what we're discussing. See how that works?

“What has it got in its pocketses?" The sound came hissing louder and sharper, and as he looked towards it, to his alarm Bilbo now saw two small points of light peering at him. As suspicion grew in Gollum's mind, the light of his eyes burnt with a pale flame.”

Are you telling me you're unable to give me the location of a rock concert within your line of sight?

And we've told you that you might avoid me but others might seek me out.
And I've no duty to disclose basically any information to you, in almost any circumstance.
Certainly not as a passerby on the ****ing street.

I’m not much of a trapper. I can live trap coons though. Caught and released a couple dozen one time when I was trying to trap a fox. Only fox I ever live trapped was a kit that the parents released before I could catch them to go with the kit. LOL.

If you live in a sane state you probably have access to a subcontractor that traps nuisance critters for your state or county. Here you can get a contact number through your game warden or your local extension office.

    Or there’s this option. :)

    Possibly but probably not.
Show me a state that allows a rifle to be used in hunting within 300 ft of an occupied home. If you're talking about using a suppressor I'm thinking your closer than that.
Again, both go to being responsible.

Yes it does. The gasses come out of the muzzle. That’s the exit point. Wrapping anything like a towel around the muzzle to mimick a suppressor works. So does shooting through something like a pillow with the object against the muzzle. The funny thing about inanimate objects, they don’t care about what dissipates and cools gasses. Anything will do from bottles to oil filters to fabric layers to plain old pipe with baffles. You can read my link. There is a court case in there involving the use of a towel as a suppressor.

Of course these methods work best for criminals who do their killing up close. Not going to work for longer range as projectiles would deviate based on inconsistencies of the media used.

Material that mimicks the effectiveness of things like pillows or towels is often added to commercial suppressors to make them more effective. Gel or wipes or even steel wool etc. inside baffles can enhance suppression for a few rounds.

    Good.

I have yet to purchase one but most of my neighbors own firearms that are created SPECIFICALLY to save life and enhance health. So we can’t paint with too broad a brush. I know that doesn’t fit the narrative but it’s a fact.

The poster I have been responding to when you engaged says only thugs have legitimate use for suppressors. I know you didn’t. Apologies if I wasn’t clear about that.

Yes, as a society that revolves around division of labor, you hire me to do the killing required to feed you and provide consumer items I produce. If you eat beef, or jello, or use candles or paint or spark plugs or any number of thousands of other consumer items you are paying me to do the killing required to provide those to society and yourself. That’s the way the world works.

    Facts are not stupid.

I constantly hear the trap club that is about a mile away from me. (I also belong and shoot there.) A rancher might have a quarter mile or more to his nearerst neighbor, but it's still good manners to quiet one's firearms.

I got seven of these invasive bastards on manasota key the other day with a pellet pistol. Black spiny tail iguana juveniles. Extremely invasive and classified as such. No season no bag limit.

Coarse Steel wool packed with bearing grease inside of the tube works quite nicely for a number of rounds with a rubber wipe on the exit side. And of course you need an interior passage between the tube and your packing material so there is no bullet strike.

I’ve heard that’s becoming a bit of a sport hunting those things down there. And supposed to be some good meat on them. They say they are pretty hard to kill. That true?

Of course a rancher or farmer would have more room and they are in a whole different situation that is being portrayed on this thread.

It would be fun to be a class 2 SOT and mess around with stuff as much as you’d like. Maybe someday when I have more time….LOL. Who am I kidding. :)

It wasn't very hard for me. I just drove along these dirt roads with a split rail fence until I seen them and shot them out the window. Just a CO2 22 single shot pellet pistol.

Of course I didn't have the gun ready when I saw the biggest one and all the ones I got are juveniles but they're ones that won't get big now.

They do book hunts for them that usually occur on a boat in canals using air guns but that sort of thing is for tourist. I own plenty of air guns and I live here so I'm not going to pay someone to do that. Lol

I’m in this thread! My backyard is 1 mile long. Past that mile there is no house for approximately 15 miles. But that’s irrelevant to the shooting I do in my “backyard”. It doesn’t matter if a backyard is a half section or a few thousand square feet. The principles of safe shooting don’t change. Violate them in a half section or a few thousand square feet and the consequences are the same. Abide by them in either place and you avoid negative consequences.

Here in Florida you just have to be 500 ft from an occupied structure
